CHRIS: Incredibly this is the same governor Perry who is for forced HPV vaccine innoculation and the TTC!

Oh, I so loved this article when it first graced the submission queue. I can just hear the anti-gun pro-registration crowd starting to boil over. But wait! Here are some FACTS!

1) States with carry/conceal permits for guns have lower (that's a good thing) incidents of murders per 100,000.

States that allow carry or carry concealed permits:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry#State_laws

Note the map in that Wiki article changes according to 'carry' laws changed per year, and the murder rate in those states falls accordingly. The exception being Hawaii which has never had a high murder rate, and does not issue carry permits (but does allow them).

And states murder rate per 100,000 people:

http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000

Note, the District of Columbia forbids handgun ownership, and has the highest murder rate; Massachusets which allows concealed carry, has the second lowest.

So, now Criminals will know that breaking into a house can get them shot - do you think the rate of B&Es or Carjacking will fall?

P.S. - Chris, what is 'the TTC'?
---
The preceding comment deals with mature subject matter, however immaturely presented. Viewer discretion is advised.
Speaking of the TTC, maybe some quick witted Texan will use this as a defence after shooting the aforementioned governor in economic self defence.

Now that would be irony.

Nevermind! Got it! Not the Toronto Transit Commission, but Trans Texas Corridor.

""But wait! Here are some FACTS!

One fact you seem to ignore, is the allowed killing of a human being by another without judge, jury or police action.
No thanks!

Hey that's a great deal of good news! I'm all for being able to apply for and receive a permit to carry concealed firearms, especially for women, in Canada. It needs to be emphasized that this would be a very serious responsibility on the person carrying.

I recall that cc permits are available to women but rarely issued in today's bureaucracy. ATC 3 is the permit. More about this here: http://www.nfa.ca/content/view/231/199/

TTC is the Trans Texas Corridor. Their site reads like the SPP.gov site. Lot's of BS. http://www.keeptexasmoving.org/
"One fact you seem to ignore, is the allowed killing of a human being by another without judge, jury or police action."

No one is suggesting that people may be killed by another without just cause. I'm certain that if a shooting took place that the event would be investigated, and if it was deemed that the shooting was not justified charges would be laid. We're talking about the right to defend ourselves, which in todays society cannot be done effectively without the use of a firearm.

In addition, without the availability of firearms, how can we defend ourselves against a government that's gone mad?

Deacon @ Thu Mar 29, 2007 6:07 pm

It's 3 am, someone's breaking into your home and you have no idea whether they are armed or not.

It's amazing how just the simple racking of a shotgun will make people reconsider continuing an attempted break in.

"Please stop breaking into my house" by itself = no effect

"Please stop breaking into my house" + the chukchuk of a racking shotgun = get the hell out of here NOW.

Which one would YOU prefer they heard?

""We're talking about the right to defend ourselves,""

If you are so afraid of being attacked with the intent of being killed, you'll die from a heart attack. Build a concrete bunker and live in that and allow others not to live in fear of you. Having a homicide investigated does nothing for the deceased. You can best defend yourself by not being paranoid.

"It's 3 am, someone's breaking into your home and you have no idea whether they are armed or not"

Then sleep in a wall safe. Nothing frustrates a killer more then the sounds of a tumbler being turned and him not knowing the combination.

"I'm all for being able to apply for and receive a permit to carry concealed firearms, especially for women, in Canada"

To keep her from fumbling for a hand gun in her purse, how about a hand grenade on her necklace. Especialy in Canada?
