That's because it's NOT just CO2! There's also methane, which, in addition to huge amounts the American hog farming industry pumps up there each year, is also being affected by the warming temperatures, as millions of tons of it lie trapped in permafrost in Siberia alone. So it's being released faster, in a feedback loop phenominon, as the temperature rises. There's also nitrous oxide (laughing aside;).
The main point scientists are trying to make, though, is that we are primarily responsible for the CO2 from our oil addicted industry and car culture. They are simply making it the main point, so as not to diffuse the message, which the average public cannot sit for more than 30 seconds through. You are smarter, so you need the 10 minute long-winded version. So go forth and get it.

“The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous, the essential act of warfare is the destruction of the produce of human labour”
Actually, I rarely watch the news, for the reasons you allude to. I read most of my news online, trying a blend of mainstream CBC with frequent visits to the Guardian, Democracy Now (actually very balanced so far as just reporting facts), local news from the local radio station website, and I listen to CBC radio quite a lot, which I prefer to the television version, which seem like two completely different entities to me.
I was disappointed with Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth', which was just a parade of power point graphs with giant spikes on the end to scare you. I much prefer the excellent documentary 'The End of Suburbia', which discusses peak oil in detail and the coming energy crisis, as well as global warming and militarism.
