America has been spending vast sums on securing its borders since the 11 September attacks five years ago.

More than one million people illegally enter the US each year - primarily from Mexico - and reducing this number has become a key political issue.

The U.S. government has moved a step closer to tightening its borders by announcing a contract for a high-tech detection system to nab people trying to enter the country illegally.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday that Boeing, best known for making airplanes, has been picked to install sensors along parts of the U.S.-Canada and U.S.-Mexico borders.

"What we are looking to build is a 21st-century virtual fence," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.

The project will start with a model to be installed along a 45-kilometre stretch of the border near Tucson, Ariz., in the U.S. Southwest, within eight months.

This from the link:

"The towers will receive data from sensors in the ground monitoring the border and pass it on to agents who could then check the location.

Sound, motion and infrared sensors would pick up movements, Champ said.

The U.S. government also mentioned that radiation detectors and cameras could help catch people trying to sneak across the border."

Sound, motion, and infrared sensors would pick up the movements of moose, elk, deer, bears, and other large
mammals too.

Hope they have good filtering software otherwise they'll be going on a lot of wild goose chases.

"Hey Bubba, what did you find when you went out to catch those foreigners trying to sneak across?

No people Earl, but we did catch some deer we suspect where either al Qaida sympathizers or illegals trying to weasel their way into the US for money to send home."

LOL

All you have to do is dress up to resemble a bear (or whatever work best) and cross!

The whole idea is insane which means we have complete wack jobs running the country!

Oh! Dude! You so engaged the Loki-prankser in me!

I wonder if the rad detectors would be sensitive enough to detect glow in the dark paint?

Paint a remote controlled car or plane (that you don't want back). . . drive it across the border . . .hilarity ensues!

Ha ha ha hours of fun so long as they don't forget where the border ends and Canadian territory starts!

You could also set off a large box of fire works in the general direction of the sensors and run like mad.

Imagine what would happen if someone innocently camped in the area and made a large bonfire that's too close to the infrared detectors!

Like someone commented a while back, is this to keep people in or keep people out?

Also, does this mean we won't have to arm our border guards? Or maybe do away with them altogether?

Funny that deep integration talks are going on, yet the border is continually getting beefed up..........

With all the security devices and technology that is being bought and sold I am more and more convinced that 9/11 was perpetrated by the military industrial complex and a shit load of secutity manufacturers. And, that Canadians were involved. Remember John Manley and Anne McLellan were both Deputy Prime Ministers and McLellan was minister of Public Safety as is Day now and all three of these people were at the Banff secret meeting. That sulpher smell Chavez detected extends well across the border and gets stronger the closer you get to the Canadian government and her lobbying exes.

This reminds me of the movie called "Escape from New York" (1981)with Kurt Russel and Lee Vancleef. New York city had fallen to the criminal element and became a maximum security prison. Walls were erected around Manhatton Island to keep the prisoners in and everyone else out.
Once in, there was no escape. Any one attempting to leave would be shot on sight. Perhaps this is the long range plan for arming our Immigration/Customs officers.

"A make work project - outsourcing to the State of Isreal."

No doubt all those Mossad agents will be able to slip in and out undetected, while all those fake terrorists will get caught even before the sensors can detect them.

Israeli Security to Protect London's Underground 18:32 Sep 21, '04

The bombs went off on July 7th 2005.

All 9/11 Airports Serviced by One Israeli Owned Company

We all know that to this point in time, the airport security videos that should clearly show all 19 of the hijackers prior to boarding the planes on 9-11, and who would have been captured on many different cameras as they made their way through the airports, have not been released. Yet on the same day as the attacks, Bin Laden was fingered as the proven master mind behind the attacks. Two wars followed, our civil liberties were curtailed, toothpaste has been banned on airplanes, and hundred's of thousands have been killed with 10 times that number wounded and maimed, and there's still no end in sight to the madness.

Do the math.

Like someone commented a while back, is this to keep people in or keep people out?
My thoughts exactly when I read about the beefed up measures being considered for the Canada-U.S. border. Now what would ever bring Americans to emigrate in droves ? Economic collapse, the loss of freedom and liberty, massive 'terrorist' round ups and incarceration, illegal arrests, martial law, military conscription, racial and/or religious profiling and the list goes on and on. Considering the way the United States currently manages their domestic affairs, all of them are possible and vary on the probability scale.
---
« Il y a une belle, une terrible rationalité dans la décision d'être libre. » - Gérard Bergeron
