We don\'t have to abandon our beliefs just because a few million extra God-fearing gay-haters voted for Bush

LINDA MCQUAIG
Toronto Star, Nov. 07/04

To most Canadians, the prospect of four more years of George W. Bush is anticipated in much the same way that one looks forward to a kick in the teeth or perhaps colonoscopy. To a small group of Canadians, however, Bush\'s re-election is clearly an energizing tonic.

An influential group of neo-conservatives and business executives, whose spiritual headquarters is Toronto\'s C.D. Howe Institute, has long been lecturing us on the need to be more accommodating to Washington.

Linda McQuaig is twisting Allan Gotlieb's words and interspersing her article with the usual anti-American nastiness she is so well known for. Our former ambassador to the US, probably the best ambassador Canada has ever had there, is only asking Canadians to be realistic and understand what is going on in the world instead of being so narrowly focussed on the US.

Over-the-top anti-American rhetoric may play well to some Canadians and their inferiority complex, but mature Canadians realize that not only are we lucky to live next to the largest free market in the world, we're safer because of it.

Perhaps you could direct us to a copy of Gotlieb's speech, anon, so we could decide for ourselves if Ms. McQuaig is 'twisting his words'.

I wonder who actually has the inferiority complex, those who desire an ever closer buddy-buddy relationship with a U.S. big brother or those who would prefer to see Canada chart be more 'adult'?

Similarly, who out of these is the 'mature' one?

Is an question concerning the healthiness and benefit of our relationship with the U.S. termed by some as 'anti-American'?

Guess it depends on your perspective.

We`re lucky to live next to the heart of corporate fascism? Yeah, good one. There are other markets to do business with, by the way. I`m tired of dealing with a particular 'market' that makes the rules, then breaks them when they don`t have the advantage!

Then get off your lazy whining butt and go for those
markets.

Milton @ Tue Nov 09, 2004 5:27 pm

I don't think he can, the Canadian government signed trade treaties with the scoff laws to the south. Now we have to get rid of the sell outs in Ottawa and the provincial capitals so that we can abrogate the trade treaties and then we can go shopping for new market places.

One more thing, at least Dave has the cajones to sign his name to his comments, whereas you are just an anonymouth troll.

Romantique ? Moi ? Absolument.

This game of name tagging is not new. "Liberal" is the
newest US dirty word and now those in Canada who
dare have ideals will be told to stop being "romantic".

" Hey man, stop it with all that romantic shit stuff.
Make a man of yourself and get REAL man ! "

*sigh* ...time for a bubble bath. Who's joining me ?
(warning: I'm a bloodsucking separatist)

4Canada @ Tue Nov 09, 2004 9:56 pm

Does the bloodsucking come with a massage? I'm there if it does.

I find it so easy to spot the new conservatives and any Republican. Joyless. That's how they look. If they smile, it looks like it hurts them and it becomes a wince or sneer.
Really unhappy bunch of people. Lovin *God* shouldn't do that to people. Actually I don't believe it does. It's the cult-like religions they belong to that creates that. Stay far far away from the bloodsucking bible thumpers.

(Sorry, I don't often get a chance to name call. Just this once?)

Dear Mature a NON,

If you think we are safer because of the US next door I'm sure as hell glad you're not my babysitter. I'd rather be home alone thank you very much.

And if we keep looking to just the US to buy our goods what are we going to do when their economy falls on its face and no one can afford them? Our dollar is going up to where it belongs and our exports will be soaring. Then what are we going to do oh mature one? Call a 911?

Who's immature? Who's unrealistic? Who's living in the past? Two more year of Bush and China will own the US of A.
That's why you're going to hear the propaganda start. China evil. China nukuler, nukuler, weapons of mass destruction, OH MY GOD A CHINESE TERRORIST!!!!

*tit for tat*

I can spot a Democrat (or liberal) a mile away because they have that blank stare on their face coupled with their bloodshot eyes. "We gotta get Bush out man, he's a real bummer" *sounds of hitting the bong* "I can't believe so many people voted for him, they're so dumb man, pass me that joint man."

michou @ Wed Nov 10, 2004 3:24 pm

... and all males are fools (so I was told, so it must be true)

4Canada @ Wed Nov 10, 2004 10:45 pm

Gee Darvin,

For someone who doesn't think that much of us you sure know a lot about us. But even with the red eyes we're smilin...and smilin....just happy. That bong will likely be available in Canada at our internet drug stores soon.

And I thought you were a Libertarian. It didn't take much for you to abandon your beliefs and vote for a murderer. You do that often enough and you won't even be able to fake happy.
