Its tax time again in Canada, which makes it a good time to think about politicians comments on taxes. Many politicians, especially conservative ones, have talked about tax relief, offering all kinds of tax cuts and rebates for everything from fitness to childrens art programs. Oftentimes, they also guarantee that these tax cuts can be paid for without reducing frontline services or major programs. If anything, they also talk about other kinds of spending, whether taking the fight to ISIS in the Middle East, getting tougher on crime, and upgrading the militarys equipment.

A flat-rate tax on gross income is impartial and fair. I am thinking of 5%.......
Think of the ease that taxes can be computed! Think of the 100,000 or so CRA employees who will have to find "honest" work. Think of the corporations (as long as they are considered "people") paying their fair share! Think of the tax lawyers, accountants and bookkeepers who could join the excess CRA employees (with apologies to my own bookkeeper)!

Rick a flat 10% worked in Alberta until the economic downturn. Rachel needs more taxes to fund her promise and has raised the rate on the higher earners. The problem is her other policies are driving away investment and the higher incomes.
A 5% flat tax may be untenable for the feds. 10% may not even be enough, but I know some wealthy people that would pull more funds from their businesses as income if that were the case. The government may find the overall revenue will increase. I think some number cruncher will come to a number between 12 and 15% as the correct flat tax. The next part is simplifying the tax form and reduce the tax deduction options to balance the 'loss' of revenue from the current progressive system.
It would work. CUPE on the other hand would make a stink about the loss of jobs in CRA.
