More like a sign of the shitty writing job DC is doing in it's universe. The only good thing in the last 10 years was the first Wonder Woman.

I’m really curious now if it really was that shitty or if there’s some other reason. You’d think they’d release it to streaming and least recoup some money.

I agree on most DC movies, but I thought Shazam was a lot of fun.

Still, I'm growing tired of superhero movies, both Marvel and DC, and I'm probably not the only one.

Me too. Even if it's garbage, it's better than "Space Sweepers". (I assume)

See, I had no desire to see Shazam! Seemed too 1960s Batman for me. You enjoyed it, but I don't think I would have.

But, yea. I want more "Dune" and "Arrival", less "Eternals" and "New Mutants". (Although I loved all the related books)

I have up on superheroes when comics went up to 15 cents...

The really cool ones, like Sandman or Hellblazer, were always more expensive. And worth it. The inks and papers they used were part of the experience. Even the smell of the book was different. And they were like $3 -$5. 8O

Can't wait for Sandman.

They got rid of the entire Vertigo horror sub-imprint a long time ago. Apparently they were in a real hurry to incorporate Swamp Thing & John Constantine back into the main DC universe full of super-prats. Looks like someone up in corporate looked at things the exact same way *JJ Abrams does, where if it's "cool!" then that's all the justification needed to destroy a once great character and officially turn them into More Of The Same. Hellblazer vs Flash? Cool! Hellblazer vs Green Lantern? Cool! Hellblazer Meets yadda yadda yadda in a once-in-a-lifetime world-shattering event and nothing with ever be the same again?!?!?!?!? Like, COOL!

Good thing Neil Gaiman kept the rights to Sandman and his other creations under his total control. He apparently kept an open eye on what happened to too many of Alan Moore's and Garth Ennis's creations and contractually refused to let them do the same things to Sandman. In interviews he seems happy with the Netflix show so that's a good sign that the adaptation wasn't allowed to butcher what was created in the books.

As for Batgirl, it's been described in some leaks as being basically "unwatchable". Which is unfortunately quite believable given what was done by creative to far too many other DC movies and TV shows. After all these are the same guys that greenlit atrocities like the Halle Berry CatWoman movie, Wonder Woman 1984, Harley Quinn & The Birds of Prey, and the Batwoman TV show. Marvel's hitting at least .500 with their releases - none of them are truly terrible, most are worth watching at least once, and more than a few are totally awesome. DC though? They need to be shipped back to the minors because they produce at least 80 to 90% stinkers and only a handful of good ones.

* and may Marvel fight Disney to the very bitterest of ends and refuse until the end of time itself to never allow that hack lens-flare addicted franchise-ruining POS to ever be involved with any of their property at all.

You take that back. Space Sweepers was a modern masterpiece. How dare you.

I kind of liked the Swamp Thing TV series. It had potential. Arrow, I watched to the end, like seeing a train wreck. Flash, na. Supergirl . . . yawn. Didn't even bother with Batgirl or that Ms. Marvel knockoff.

Although, Halle Berry . . [drool]

Ezra Miller rampaging across the country attacking people in public & kidnapping kids from Native reservations, and then getting away with it just because he's some sort of "special", is just another good reason for putting the brakes on the reboot of the reboot and starting all over again from scratch. Even Universal didn't botch their properties as badly with their classic monsters movies re-launch (starting with Tom Cruise's The Mummy film several years ago) as much as Warner/DC have with just about everything they've done over the last ten years for their comic characters.

xerxes @ Fri Aug 05, 2022 3:45 pm

It's starting to look like Warner's acquisition by Discovery is going to be bad for a lot of series. From the looks of things, they're cancelling all but their most popular shows (Rick and Morty, Euphoria, John Oliver) and focusing on movies that only make massive bank.

Except, they haven't been able to copy the formula Marvel has in making movies with a certain level of consistency. Which is such a shame too considering the great source material they have with DC.

JaredMilne @ Fri Aug 05, 2022 11:23 pm

I'm probably a bit of an outlier in that I actually like female superheroes, and don't really care if they're race-swapped. I saw the entire Supergirl series on The CW, and a lot of Batwoman, but then I let the last few episodes sit on my DVR for six months before I finally decided I wasn't going to watch them. And yeah, they could be pretty ham-handed with their political messages, whether it be about immigration or Black people's relations with the police.

I gave up on the MCU partly because it became too bloated with crossovers and multiverse crap featuring multiple iterations of the same character. One Spider-Man is plenty, and I don't need a half-dozen alternate counterparts, all with the same basic powersets, all competing for screentime.

Robert Pattinson's Batman movie was awesome in part because it stuck to its own core part of the DC Universe and didn't try to shove random characters like Harley Quinn in for a cameo. It focused on the core of what made Batman great with detective work, multiple scheming villains, a mysterious backstory. No crossovers, no multiverse, no trying to mash everything in the universe together.

I am so fucking done with crossovers and multiverses in comics.
