Bring Back 'The Beachcombers' Petition

I know the webmaster who made this petition, so I thought I would give it a plug

Welcome to our petition to urge the CBC bring back the Beachcombers. The Beachcombers first aired in October, 1972, and is the longest running drama series in Canadian television history (19 seasons). The series exposed Canada's multiculturalism, beautiful landscape and quirky Canadian characters to millions of viewers from all over the world. Other than the episodes that aired on specialty channels in Canada, the rest haven't aired since 1984, and we feel it's time to see them again on the CBC.
On this the 35th anniversary of the series, we believe the CBC should replace the scheduled American afternoon programming with this classic series, a series that can be watched by the whole family. Bring back a Canadian Classic to the CBC. Bring back the Beachcombers.

That show went off the air in 1984? Surely there was re-runs for longer than that though. I seem to remember watching it w/ my dad and in 1984 i was only 4, which would be a bit young to remember Relic & co.
EDIT: Actually, according to this site, the show aired in re-runs until 1990.
I also miss Danger Bay.

While we're at it why not bring back the Irish Rovers too? I think that it would require some digging to bring both of the series back.

CBC being forced to air NHL playoff hockey during the afternoon must have killed the budget.

to clarify, the series aired new episodes until 1990. but the "classic" episodes stopped being rerun in 1984. So for at least a generation, these episodes have not been seen. that is the purpose of the petition, to get the classic episodes on the air again.

PLEASE! Leave that dead horse alone. The show stunk and was embarrassing. BUT.......!?
Maybe the "Men With Brooms" gang could do a movie remake. That film was fun and had some true Canadiana in it. With many of the same actors and an updated version it might be entertaining. Molly Parker has gotten to be a bigger actress but might still do it. Paul Gross does not seem to be doin' much and Leslie Nielsen would be a hoot!

We used to watch it in Ottawa when I was a kid. Then we moved up here and we used to always sail to Gibsons and stay overnight there and visit Molly's Reach.
I also think one of the actor's wives taught one of my classes as a substitute for a while.... maybe the cop character? I can't remember but I still see him around doing local stuff.
