DVD is a far better format. When I rent it's always DVD unless I want to watch an older movie that they do not have out on DVD yet.

Don't even talk to me about renting vhs (except when unavailable on DVD of course)! I had such a fight with my parents once because my brother and I can't stand standard format now and on the top gun dvd, you have the option of widescreen(16:9) or standard(4:3). For those who had the same problem i recommend the Die Hard five star collection, in which you actually see what happens when thy modify it, and you can show people why it's lame. Anyways, i rarely rent since i'm a dvd freak, like my brother. Together we got over 500 dvds now, all legal!

I never did rent much of either, but if I do rent now, I get the DVD hands down. Much better and it goes through my stereo. :D :D

I work for a big box electronics retailer that's just starting to build stores in Canada, we have about 36,000 titles in DVD and almost no VHS. There's no market for VHS at all anymore. When a new movie comes out, we will get in about 20 VHS versions of the movie, and once they sell out, we don't get them back.

I only rent Vhs. Dvds are over priced and not worth the extra money......

Just kidding. But seriously this thread is laid out almost expecting someone to come in here and say that.

I just bought four more DVD players so that my family will upgrade.

I really dig old crappy cult/sci-fi movies that most likely will never see the light of day on dvd, so I may not rent them, but occasionally I'll buy a vhs for $5 just for the nostalgia factor.

Of course, I just found Reptilicus on dvd, so my hopes of a LobsterMan from Mars Special Edition are rekindled!

I have over 100 VHS movies.

Now I gotta go buy all of them on DVD, but I can't sell my VHS's cuz nobody wants em.

Could always donate it to a school or non-tv hating religious faction..
