Oh. Hell.

That looks amazing! R=UP

$1:
Ultron will be portrayed by James Spader in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron.

I must be growing up, because when I saw that last week I didn't really care...it looks too much like Michael Bay's utterly interchangeable Transformers movies.

Kinda. But has Marvel made a shitty movie yet? I say no.

Thanos @ Mon Oct 27, 2014 3:21 pm

Sorry, but most Marvel films kind of suck. Here's just a partial list:

both FF films
Elektra
X-Men 3 The Last Stand
both Wolverine solo films
Daredevil
first Hulk film
Spiderman 3
most recent Spiderman film
all The Punisher films

They did good with GotG, the Blade trilogy, the Singer X-films, First Class, Avengers I, Cap, Thor, and a few others. In reality though they're barely going 50/50 when it comes to good vs. awful. The next FF film will be the biggest insult yet, and make the first two look like Shakespeare in comparison, because they bowed down to "diversity" and cast Johnny Storm as a yappy Wayans brothers sort of black guy. Same father as Sue Storm but now with different mothers apparently, fer fucks sake. Goodbye canon and any real respect for the fans, hello political correctness taken to it's dumbest possible extreme.

I should have been more specific. Those on your list Thanos, most were by Sony studios or someone else. The most recent Marvel movies, Cap America, Avengers, Thor, those are made by Marvel studios (by way of Disney). Those have all been good if not awesome.

It's Sony who made a hash of Wolverine and a Daredevil and the others.

I rather liked the films Thanos mentioned, but don't think they'll ever be 'classic' movies. Just good fun. I did like the Punisher films with Ray Stevenson (Rome, Dexter) and Dolph Lundgren, but not Thomas Jane. It was so far off the Punisher mythos it was just wrong.

Because Disney does one group of franchises, and Sony another - that's why we'll never see a Hulk/Wolverine/Spiderman or Punisher/Daredevil crossover like has been so good in the books.

That's why the way the Marvel properties got licensed is so weird. DC, as an arm of Warner Brothers, keeps everything under the WB label, hence an upcoming Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman blockbuster with no ownership problems at all. Marvel has their own thing going but had a lot of their property licensed off to Sony, which means that as long as Sony holds the rights there'll never be anything like FF meeting the Avengers. Kind of silly because in the books all the groups and individuals are crossing over all the time.

I'd like to know what it is specifically that so many of the Sony films turn out to be so dumb/awful. Must be a corporate thing with instructions to churn them out coming from the bosses up top because they certainly don't seem to want to achieve the same quality that the other ones like Avengers or the Singer X-Men's had.

IIRC, Marvel was nearing bankruptcy. They had done all the title reboots with story arcs like 'Days of Future Past' and 'Age of Apocalypse' so that stories previous had never happened, they were pushing sometimes 2 comics a week from the same title (eg: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Force . . .) and like others I think I suffered burnout. My $20 a month 'habit' turned to $50, then $20 a week, then $30 a week - then like cable TV I decided it wans't worth it anymore.

So they were hemorrhaging money, and the only income they could get was licensing movie rights. Sony was the only taker, because back then they actually took chances.

That has to be the corporate mindset that gives us remakes of past successes, like Total Recall and Robocop. The big TV Networks would never take a risk on a show about a Chemistry teacher who turns drug kingpin, it takes an upstart TV network looking to make a name. Sony would never do it when they get handed a 'formula' script for 'Sex Tape' which is just another clone of past glory and guaranteed to make money. Except they don't count on audiences getting burnt out from too much of the same-old same old.

Marvel did some sort of press conference yesterday where they announced future plans for the next five years' worth of movies. Titles will include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Thor 3, and this humble chap:

Enjoy your remaining time while you can, humans, because you people are fucked.

Infinity war!!

But, how do they get the glove from Asgard? Inquiring minds want to know!!

BRAH @ Wed Oct 29, 2014 8:52 am

Days of Future Past was the best X-Men and Captain America 3 is going to be based on Civil War where Tony Stark supports the mutant registration act and Cap doesn't which will be interesting since Marvel doesn't own the rights to X-Men which means they can't appear in the movie.
