Zipperfish Zipperfish:
I find a lot of the streaming series are better than a lot of the movies coming out, though.

I saw a review lamenting "The Eternals" not being a Disney series, because it was too crowded to be a movie.

So many good movies and shows. We're just spoiled with the sheer number of them. I find a lot of the streaming series are better than a lot of the movies coming out, though.

I think TV shows are getting better for exactly the reasons Scape noted - character development and conflict, instead of relying on CGI/special effects like many major blockbuster movies do.

CGI/special effects get better (and probably cheaper) all the time. It's better for the film companies to load up on those and cheap out out on good writing. This also takes time away from character development and storytelling. Since Hollywood makes a lot of money now selling movies to the world, this also makes the movies more easily adaptable to that market.

Conflict is the base of any good story, whether it's man against man, man against nature, or whatever, and it seems like the current generation doesn't care for real conflict, just CGI effect, car chases and fist fights with no consequences or impact. Combined with most characters getting no arc or development, I think it's why so many movies these days are so forgettable and boring.

CGI in movies is used the same way a good illusionist uses a smoke bomb, it's a glittery distraction but in itself has no substance. The sole purpose is to distract from what is actually going on. However, when NOTHING is going on all it does is highlight just how vapid the performance is. When used correctly it adds to the performance like a well conducted symphony.

There are modern examples of good writing such as Invincible but will such enterprises get support of the market? Only if the consumers put effort into their choices and vote with their dollars and their butts.

Don't even remember what movie - the title of it looked like it might be interesting, so I clicked it.
Instantly i saw the MARVEL logo on the screen, I shut it off.

Like I've said. I outgrew comic books when they went up to 15c

I haven't. They still tell stories that are new, interesting, edgy, and relevant. Something that is rare in Hollywood these days.

I can't wait till Sandman comes out, considering how Gaiman completely changed Lucifer from the books and how Constantine didn't meet expectations, I hope Dream retains his helm. It was the first comic that raised the hairs on my arm.
