2004 speech given to the U.S. Senate committee chaired by John McCain.
$1:
…Increasing global concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, are projected to contribute to additional arctic warming of about 4-7 degrees over the next hundred Years
…Increases in glacial melt and river runoff add more freshwater to the ocean, raising global sea level and possibly slowing the ocean circulation that brings heat from the tropics to the poles, affecting global and regional climate.”
…Melting of highly reflective arctic snow and ice reveals darker land and ocean surfaces, increasing absorption of the sun’s heat and further warming the planet.”
…Increasing precipitation, shorter and warmer winters, and substantial decreases in snow cover and ice cover are among the projected changes that are very likely to persist for centuries.
…Arctic vegetation zones are very likely to shift, causing wide-ranging impacts.
…Animals species’ diversity, ranges and distribution will change.
…Reductions in sea ice will drastically shrink marine habitat for polar bears, ice-inhabiting seals, and some seabirds, pushing some species towards extinction.

What?? Where's the "Righteous Indignation"? A Canadian politician copying a US Republican politician and no one goes ballistic? Whatever could have happened to the "progressive" society that we live in. I would have least expected the CBC to drag out some musty old professor in a tweed jacket to babble in support of the Liberals.

Sigh.. they must be desperate to keep this quiet.
shhhhh it's okay if you're Liberal nothing to see here move along.
Little desperate there ridenrain.. an article on climate change is not a speech... and there are many politicians and others that have made "statements" reflecting the importance of curbing carbon emissions.. you are grasping at straws.. this was not a speech by McCain..and we all know that M.Dion has held his views long before he was leader of the Liberal Party.. the only one stealing speechs in stevie harper.. so give over..
The hearing, chaired by Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican, was held to discuss the assessment by the Arctic Council and the International Arctic Sciences Committee entitled, "Impacts of a Warming Arctic." It is part of a series of climate change hearings held by the committee. You need to learn the difference between a statement made during a hearing by a chairman and a speech..
Unlike most educated people in the world who understand the importance of the enviroment and the connection to the economy, harper well harper just does't care..

Harper just doesn't have a religious fascination with the environment and he's also not convinced that man is responsible for 100% of climate change.
lots of tax cuts, even to the manufacturing sector, eliminating some tarrifs! It will be all out soon. He's got another enviro plan he will unleash in a few days.
"oh.. but the green tax is just a side issue, not the major frocus of our entire platform. We'll come out with that on a napkin after a few, taxpayer funded lunch meetings"
