"“But I am absolutely convinced that the Green Shift is the best way to solve the crisis,” he said.

faile @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:28 pm

He's been smoking too much green shift.

Still trying to sell that more taxes thing, mtbr?

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 7:06 pm

From that little interview with mansbridge, we can guess that a Dion government would introduce a new tax, reguardless of whatever hardships the Canadian voters suffered under. Considering the desasterous firearms registry, this would soon baloon to consume all of the budget.. except for all those brown envelopes, that is.

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 7:17 pm

We can also assume, from that very same interview, that there would be a reduction in income taxes equal to the rise in new taxes, Riden.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 7:21 pm

If you believed liberals, you could.
I personaly keep hearing this persistant echo of Chretien shouting ".. and we'll remove the GST"

For some, and then there are those who will have to pay the some.

Which ever way Dion spins it, a tax is still a tax. Rather foolish of Dion to push it. Sounds to me like a death knell.

I think the other Liberals in Dions party said it best, and I quote:

It's not a matter of believing or not believing the Liberals, Riden. It's a matter of whether they are less trustworthy and competent than Harper. A lot of people would say that it's harder to believe Harper. That includes people like me who don't support Dion and the Liberals for honest reasons, not the misconstruations of the Harper Conservatives.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 8:17 pm

How's that national Childcare program comming along? Any closer tham we were a decade ago?

That was the 1993 Liberal Red book promise of Chretien.
Allong with this, we got the promise to remove the GST, increse MP's powers and cancelling those darned Helio's for the navy.

That's some fine traditions and legacy of trust there.

DerbyX @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 8:26 pm

79% of the red book promises kept vs 50% from Harper.

'nuff said.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 8:31 pm

So the decade old national childcare promise is in the green shift?
:D

DerbyX @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 12:00 am

Bad math? When does 79% = 100%?

Of course we could ask harper where the hell are all those military purchases he said he would make. Instead he simply forced the DND to pay for far more of the war costs out of their own pocket which is why the navy ran out of gas money.

79% is far better then 50%.

Over what time frame? Is that for all 13 of the last years of Liberal government compared to 2.5 for the Conservatives?

Between being elected and the next election. A new election means the govt is no longer in charge officially for a brief period and a whole new set of promises are made.

Still, there are no cons who can bitch about Liberal broken promises when Harper has been far worse.
