And this is why I'm all for it. Tired of all the nonsense that we have been forced to put up with by having a minority govt. Bunch of stupid, greedy, snot-nosed whiney kids who can't get along with each other. Nothing will improve as long as Canada is governed by a minority regardless of the party.
Iggy pulled his support. Happy Jack is crying his usual blackmail routine, and Jacque the Block is, well 'Jacque the Block', and Harper is telling them all, in essence, to GFYerselves! As is to be expected. I am not impressed by any of them!
Here's my prediction, whether we in fact do face an election this fall or we bide our time until the 'due date'.
Harper by a majority. Iggy & Co. as opposition and the other two stooges 'keeping on keeping on'.
What's your take on our sorry situation? Are you for or against a 'once and for all' election? Do you think enough people are finally fed-up enough to get off their asses an vote this time, and help to make a difference?
I think if the next election takes place within the next 6 months, the voters are going to hand the Liberals their asses in a hat. At $300 million a pop, so far it's been over a billion dollars spent on elections since what, 2005? And for what?
To keep hearing the Liberals whine? Sorry but that's really not worth the money.
I doubt that Harper will go down in history as forming a majority government. But if Iggy keeps pushing his penny antics, Harper might go down in history for taking down 3 Liberal leaders.
I like the status quo, a Conservative minority. I'd prefer a different leader though. I'd fear a majority headed by an ultra-right idealogue like Harper. If it has to be a majority, I'd rather it be a Liberal majority than a Harper-led Conservative one. The Conservative MP in my riding, Gary Schellenburger, is a complete tool with the personality of Vladimir Lenin's preserved corpse, so I won't be voting Conservative unless they have a real upgrade at leader. My preference would be to save the cost of a Federal election. I think it'll be a waste of money because we're likely to get another minority anyway.
Like Lemmy I’m pretty happy with the way things are right now. Are things perfect? No! Are or will they ever outside fantasy? No. IT frustrated me to no end years back running and helping to run campaigns when some Joe Public would say they don’t like my or any other party because of X, while they were fine with A – W. IMO, the way I vote now, unless issue X is so vile and unbearable I’ll vote for the party who has the most I like.
Minority governments and coalition governments are not that bad. Its just not the norm over here but maybe beside Italy they are common place in Europe. I see lots of Conservatives on another forum online whining and crying about Harper being too Liberal. Well of course, if he went hard right we’d of have another election right now. Its his minority and his will to stay in power that tempers the hard edges of his party, the same would be true of any minority party. The same is true for coalitions, both parties keep the others rough sides in check. Sure there will still be a leaning left or right but we won’t see the needle buried hard in either direction.
Putting it in perspective for me if there is an election this fall. Well the Libs painted a picture for a decade about the world coming to an end if the Conservative (in whatever form at the time) party gained power. Guess what? Didn’t happen! They have so far steered us rather well compared to the US through the recession and looks like we might get through it with only some bruising compare to others. Taxes are not out of control, health care has not gotten worse at least, and the nation’s defense and public safety arms have seen the extra money and equipment they were not getting for over a decade. Before Finally, I just don’t trust Iggy.
I have a friend who is doing his doctorate in Economics. He is building a model from polls to predict numbers of seats for each party. Last year, I think he only missed a few. It doesn't only use national polls but also ridings'.
Here's his result dating sept 2nd:

The last thing I want to see is a majority government. I would rather see a minority that will work with opposition and an opposition that will work for a minority. As it stands, with an election every 13 months or so, the two are just too concerned about posturing for the next election to get anything really done.
Start by reading the speech he gave at the Fraser Institute's 30th anniversary in 2004. Read his speech to the Alliance caucus at the 2001 leadership convention. You SHOULD hold your breath when you have nothing informed nor intelligent to add.
Just Google it. You're all likely more adept at finding stuff on the net than I.
