Some Right blogs have been getting E-mails from the CBC:

I'm hoping you can help?

I'm looking for someone who was going to vote Conservative in the last election but changed their minds along the way because they were scared, freaked out or worried about the Conservatives, the Conservative agenda or its leader. So, instead, they voted Liberal. Now you're facing the same dilemma this time. If this describes you AND you are willing to travel for a couple of days next month AND you are willing to appear on television then please get in touch immediately.

If this doesn't describe you, please feel free to forward this email to someone you feel might fit this description. Thanks.

That's odd. Nothing about how scared you might be that Paul Martin is going to bankrupt and split the country. Nothing about the NDP's unique national unity questions. Not even the Bloc boogy man.

Did this web site get one of these e-mails?

This is in direct violation of the CBC's code of conduct. They recognised it and have sent out an apology E-mail. If you don't think that's enough, you can talk to these people:

And then there's the Ombudsman:

The Ombudsman, CBC English Services

e-mail: ombudsman@cbc.ca

And then there's the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Liza Frulla:

Telephone: (819) 997-7788

And the list would not be complete without providing an opportunity to get in touch with Robert Rabinovitch, the President and CEO of the CBC:

And all the rest of the CBC Board of Directors!

Ridenrain,

How on earth is anybody supposed to conclude that the email snippet you've got posted is actually FROM the CBC? It has a colloquial informal tone to it, lacks any sort of verifying information nor have you included which right-wing online column (I hate the term blog) purportedly received this request.

In short, you may wish to re-evaluate your own stance on fear-mongering before belitting others for what you so readily do yourself.

Cheers!

He's a fair cop.
Considering this was an E-mail thing, there is really no "proof". I do not know what will be accepted as "proof" but here is the the link for the apology letter, and the original thread.

Media reports scandalous material because it sells. The CPC hidden agenda is an easy target because of the stuff that comes out of Harper's mouth. I doubt it is biased though. Look at the airtime the sponsorship scandal is getting. People love this stuff. If anything the people are driving these stories, not the media.

Dayseed @ Thu Dec 08, 2005 3:26 pm

Ridenrain,

I clicked your link. Seems legit enough. Shame on the CBC.

FuzzyEarlobes @ Thu Dec 08, 2005 3:35 pm

If a public company leans to promote it's public intrests, it is shameful. Then is it shameful for a private company that leans to promote it's private intrests shameful as well?

That analogy would make sense if public and private companies should be held to the same standard.

But it seems that a public company, being public, has a higher standard to meet because it represents a public trust, where a private company only has to represent its own interest.

Jaime_Souviens @ Thu Dec 08, 2005 4:32 pm

From what I can see,

$1:
Some Right blogs have been getting E-mails from the CBC:
isn't strictly accurate. The request seems to have come from one person at the CBC and was sent to one particular person.

That e-mail has since been posted around a bit, hence it shows up on a lot of blogs.

So, biased reporting, probably. An attempted skulking behind the scenes of conservative blogs, no.

Yes, that is what I am trying to get at. No standards or accountabilty for Private entities. Shareholders are the only group they have to answer to. Unless that is changed, the public intrest will always be overpowered by overwhelming misinformation spewed forth by a money hungry entity.

Wait, someone calls into a well known Conservative media hack and because the caller's opinions don't conform to Green's neo-con way of thinking, he's labelled as a spinmeister?

Ok fair enough, as long as we can agree that Lowell Green should here on be referred to as a Conservative schill.

AngloAngst @ Fri Dec 09, 2005 2:12 am

Agreed Lowell is a bit of a provocateur, but a neo-con???? Not possible. He's older that the dinosaurs.

BTW; did you have anything to say ref the annoying sound bite playing on this thread? Or anything else? What's ruining your day today?

ridenrain @ Sun Dec 11, 2005 11:44 pm

It's kind of late but I made this handy form for some of you folks:

Well, I've been a _________ supporter all my life but I just can't vote for ________. He's just not a leader. There's something that I just don't trust about him.
If the ________ want to win in ________ they need to get rid of ________.

Istanbul @ Mon Dec 12, 2005 12:04 am

It is time to get rid of the media arm of the Liberal Party. You will not see it in your kids lifetime though. Anyone know the number of CBC employees? Multiply that by 10 for the number of people beholden to the CBC and by extension the Liberal party.

A change of government would clean out the inbred bias systemic to the CBC.
