Harper, Layton back down from blocking May

ridenrain @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:23 pm

Doesn't that leave the bloc still?

Who's going to reff, Don Cherry?

bootlegga @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:26 pm

Wow, that's shocking. Not that it matters one bit, but still shocking that Layton and Harper would cave like that.

roger-roger @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:31 pm

Maybe they realised they were acting childish. Its not like the green party is going to own them in the debates.

themasta @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:39 pm

Maybe it was May's comment that she wasn't allowed in the debates because she was a woman that forced their hand. Honestly, any respect I had for the Greens I lost when she spouted that bit of blithe ignorance. When you play the sexism card, you've already lost.

Caving or realizing they were acting childish, either way she's in and that's a good thing. It's still appalling that the decision was made by an unelected, unaccountable consortium of media who seem to listen to the big players about who they should and shouldn't have to debate, but at least they made the right decision at long last.

Tell me about it, last I recall Kim Campbell and Alexa McDonough had no problem when it came to being invited to the debates but I guess that fact has escaped May.

What is she going to do when not a one of her candidates is elected or if she looses against McKay? Will she also blame that on sexism while completely ignoring her own fool hearted decision to run in an unwinnable riding?

sandorski @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:04 pm

These things should be decided on some sort of minimum criteria. The Greens seem to be supported by a significant portion of the Population and cutting them out was just as much a Political game as was May playing the Sex Card.

That said, I read today that she wants to send a $25k Cheque to every Canadian as part of the War on Poverty. It's ideas like that which will undermine the Greens and keep them from being a serious contender in the future.

She really said that? That's insane. Hasn't she heard the parable of the rising tide lifting all boats? I'm sure all those prisoners and foreign Canadians will just love taht one.
Gordo did that in BC with his carbon tax and now he's so unpopular he suspended the fall sitting of parliament because he dosen't want to get lynched.

She obviously watching the U.S. elections.

Are they going to have room on the stage for that "pig with lipstick" ??

wait a sec.. In Dion's latest "man of action" campaign, it mentions that he plays hockey. Our PM plays hockey. Screw the debate and let have a game. Can there be nything more Canadian than that?

Here's a link of a Mike Duffy interview with Warren Kinsella and May, and this is a glimpse of what a mess she will make of this. Warren's looking like hell but May just can't shut up or stop with the political digs. It's embarassing.

Discussing the issues would be more Canadian.

No it wouldn't.

FFS everyone discusses the issues, even places that don't have ice rinks.

Canadians play hockey. Best of seven.

May will start telling us she's been to Alaska.

ridenrain @ Wed Sep 10, 2008 5:36 pm

Not learning the issues, not voting or voting for a brand, then bitching about it afterward would be more Canadian. It's like Canadians expect that if they ignore politics, it will magically get better and it never will.

Lol. Should we have a sports section of the election so we can guess at teams?
