Stephen Harper said that there was nothing wrong with the economy before and during the election.

So...either he lied AGAIN...

...or he's stupid.

I'm an intelligent human being so I realize that saying that he either lied or he is stupid is too narrow to be accurate. Reality is that he lied AND he's stupid...but just smart enough to get the 'really bright ones' to vote for him.

What did he say - it was something like if there was going to be a finacial melt down it would have happened already. The opinion was we would make it through the world downturn, just. Now we read he has ponied up another $50 billion to take over mortgages, for a total of $75 billion. There's more doom and gloom in the newspaper. One thing, even if there is a recession and job loss it's going to be shallow compared to 1981-83 and 1990 - 1991 where job losses were deep and the recovery about seven years.

It was a developing issue during the Election. Too hard to make any definitive statement, IMO. Things were certainly not looking Optomistic, but what could he do?

He could've told the truth and faced the situation like Obama and McCain did...

Anybody ever seen, heard or heard of a politician that was not either stupid or a liar?
True, liar AND stupid is a rarer combination but is not unheard of (see current ousted US president).

My dilemma is that when I vote, who do I vote for, the idiot or the liar.
I've solved that problem by not voting anymore for the popular parties, even going Bloc Pot or Rhino.
At least that way I can honestly say "I didn't vote for that idiot and/or liar".

Steven harper is full of it...Every knows "tory times are tough times"..the writing was on the wall well before the election. What's funny is the apologists and excuse makers out there...playing the "we are stupid and ignorant card" and expecting people to swallow it. While they may have an excuse for being stupid ..there is no excuse for ignorance. Like the famous man said "Not all conservatives are stupid, but all stupid people are conservative".

The hell has just begun and slowly Canadians will figure out how they have been fleeced by the conservatives. Expect a "rats fleeing from a sinking ship" approach as all powerful neocons walk away with your money. Again the apologists and excuse makers will make there appearance.

Were already seeing it with the banks..yet to come is going to be the creation of monopoly's based on conservative favouritism....many supporters , believing they are the chosen ones will be crushed by the greed and selfishness of their fellow neocons.

I say "suck it up dummy CON(servative)uck" It's tits up for you.You made your bed , now sleep in it. Have a nice trip to the food bank.

What will then happen is the party that gets 30% of the vote without any leader will get an "acceptable to the general public" leader and win. The old good cop ,bad cop trick and Canucks will fall for that too. Hook line and sinker.

It's the old merry go round trick...what they(politicans)need is a real shocker like the ndp or greens to rattle thier cages, but the conservative media will stop that in it's tracks, gauranteed, so congratulations figureing out how the politician is a liar and thief ..no go and look up the definition of a politician and you will see that's exactly what they are. " A person that seeks public office for their own benifet". No surprise there...what is surprising is how defensive the neoconservatives are, like there "controlling the message" tactic isn't wearing thin already.

When it comes to politicians (all of stripes), you have to remember the old Jewish saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!"

Then why are we selling off assets like the CN tower?, a national icon "as a means of "reducing a deficit," Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said today"

Not only does that imply we are in deficit spending but that we are getting rid of valuable assets for a quick buck. Thats like selling the familuy jewels to pay the rent.

They also said no to deficit spending and made a whole lot of military promises they promptly broke.

I think that qualifies as enough of a reason not to believe what he says.

who cares if the CN Tower was for sale? It would remain a national icon even if it was sold. It's not like new owners would up and move it.

That's true, but given the federal government's (both Lib and PC) history of privatization and selling off of Crown assets, odds are, it would have been sold for a fraction of its value.
