gets pretty pathetic to hear any of the partisan hacks trying to portray the other leaders as villains and their candidate as a white knight. It's like trying to choose between Caligula and Nero for the worst leader.

I think it's pathetic that the right partisan hacks failed to notice Iggy quoting Bruce Springsteen's "Rise Up", a response to 9-11.. Instead of the Canadian version about creating a better/freer society..

Seems his "just visiting" attitude applies to Parliament as well. Hell, I'd quit my overseas job to take a bank branch manager's salary to not show up for work.
Meanwhile, those slave driving bastards at Harvard probably expected him to actually show up for work.

So crossing the country in a fancy camper and talking to people in little towns along the way doesn't qualify as work?

Sorry but dodging Parliamentary business just so he can get his face out there is a piss-poor excuse.
As I've said previously, Harper may be guilty of Contempt of Parliament, but Iggy is no better with his contempt for Parliament he has shown time and time again.

I'd like to see some numbers to confirm this 70%, and from previous years, as well as what is typical for the opposition leader in the run-up to an election. Unless people are ready to take Jack Layton's numbers as the absolute truth.

There's some irony...

The accusation of vote-absenteeism against Ignatieff was levelled last week by the NDP's Layton during the English-language debate. In response, Ignatieff deflected the accusation, and instead talked about the Conservatives' "undemocratic" practices.

Two days later, Ignatieff said the reason he'd missed so many votes was because of his busy tour schedule in which he "takes the message" across the country.

But since Ignatieff officially became Liberal leader in May 2009, three of his high-profile tours occurred almost entirely while the House wasn't sitting. Only a handful of the 167 votes were held during those tours.

Records show he was in Ottawa on at least some of the days he missed votes.

IGNATIEFF'S TIMELINE: The House was prorogued, that is, not sitting at all, during Ignatieff's university tour that ran from Jan. 11 to 18, 2010.

Then Ignatieff took a two-month tour during summer 2010, travelling more than 50,000 kilometres around Canada. He embarked on the "Liberal Express" in mid-July, nearly one month after the House rose for the summer. When he made his final stop Sept. 25, he had missed five days of the new session.

Shortly after ringing in 2011, Ignatieff went on his "20/11" tour, where he visited 20 opposition-held ridings in 11 days. Those 11 days were during Parliament's winter break.

I guess we should all vote for Jack.

awww, look at the little party hack, missing the obvious one.

He is accused of missing 69 percent, or 115 of those. That's the highest vote-absentee rate of any federal leader.

That means Iggy shows up 31% of the time.
Well, at least he can do less damage that way.

Wasn't it? He's got the best record. Even with the prostate cancer.

How'd They Vote: MP Stats

Edit: You might notice that in the last 2 governments, only the most recent session did anybody miss more days than Harper.

Edit2: Stripped extraneous data.

Curt: I think you're doing an awful lot of stretching if you think dissaproval of Iggy means I approve of Jack based on a single talking point.
See, it's all about leadership. And sadly, none of the bobble-heads have that quality.

I'm just saying.. Even at the risk of being called a partisan hack. Your leader has a terrible record for attendance. Glass houses, stones and all that stuff.

My leader???? When the fuck have you ever heard me give support to Harper? Jebus Curt, I didn't even vote for Harper. Hell, the first year I was here my siggy said, "DON CHERRY 4 PM". Hardly a ringing endorsement for ANY of the so-called leaders. Look at my siggy now. Does that indicate I have faith in ANY of the party leaders?
So yes, you are a partisan hack. Just because I called Iggy out in a thread about him making excuses, does NOT mean I support Harper. Get a grip dude.

Harper is our Prime Minister, that's why he misses so many votes. He's travelling all over the World throughout the year.

Comparing a sitting MP's record to that of the PM isn't comparable. They have completely different responsibilities.
