The "correction" is as follows:
Subject: from Gurmukh Singh, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), New Delhi

Clarification: Since the word ‘official’ in my report has caused confusion, let me explain it from our Indian perspective.

In India, an “official’” language does not become a “national” language. The acceptance of a language by the government makes it “official”, not a national language.

So Hindi and English are link languages (but never mentioned as national languages in the Indian Constitution), and 21 other languages are our official languages (but not national languages).

So my use of the word “official” might have been confused with the word “national” by some people. But that was not my intention.

All I wanted to know from Jack Layton was whether he will give some kind of recognition to the Punjabi language as it has been here for about a hundred years. Not the status of a national language.

Jack also didn’t promise anything except say that he will support any idea of such a recognition if his party is voted into power.
Aside from painting this as another "Dion moment", it really dosen't change anything. Those quotes from Jack still stand untill he says they were false.. like the promises he made to the pot party.. XD

What's even funnier is the fact that Derby is shouting that this is all fabricated bullshit being distributed from "biased" Conservative blogs yet you both trust that same blog as proof? Give you're head a shake!
That is why you have no credability.

Nice try ridenliar. This has been busted and until you can actually find Laytons own words to support it you are lying.

BTW, even your bolded quote says Jack isn't "promising" anything.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
ziggy ziggy:
Punjabi has lot's to do with Canadian culture.

Like what? Considering it still sounds like a type of Silly Putty to me.

What, is your idiocy self-generated or a product of our education system.

Pick up a history book.

So all Jack really said, according to the man he said it too, is that he supports the idea of providing services in a language the people receiving those services can actually understand. He never said anything about making Punjabi an "official" language as we use the word in Canada.

You insist on saying that he did. You've been corrected several times, you've been given a source that you usually consider reliable, and that source quotes the source of the original story.

How desperate are you? How bad are those internal polls that your masters are giving you this as a talking point?

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
You folks deserve it. Sorry, but the myopic fascination with biligualism and multiculturalism spawns crap like this and now you're seeing the fruits of this. English speaking Canadians will be second-class citizens who will have to speak French, Punjab, Urdu, Arabic, and etc. to accomadate all the immigrants who will be under no obligation whatsoeveer to learn English. Of course, they'll have to speak French to quell the Quebecers....for now.

I've narrowed his problem down toheavy metal poisoning in the ground water where he lives or a massive crack/PCP addiction. Either way the explanation is evident.

Where's jack's correction then? Show me where Jack says his direct quotes were wrong, without using these biased Conservative blogs or "fabricated" news stories.

The Lefty tag team simply refuses to accept that Jack Layton might have run his mouth off when talking to an ethnic group.

I think it's the meth, Derby. It explains the paranoia, the hallucinations, and the lack of attention to detail. Also, it's popular in areas dominated by unthinking conservatism.

Actually if you bothered to read Stephen Taylors blog with the correction youwould have seen the bit about the NDP pounding the pavements correcting the misinformation.

I don't blame Jack one bit not focusing his energy on conservative blogger lies as hes got an election campaign to fight.

Given that this info is entirely in the hands of vote-only con bloggers and their readers the damage control isn't worth his effort even if we use it to prove you a liar and somebody pushing somethinghe knows to be a lie.

No, the Conservative hack is sounding increasingly like he's afraid of something...so afraid that he is trying to appeal to prejudice and xenophobia to shore up his lies.

DerbyX @ Wed Oct 08, 2008 6:54 am

He is afraid of the truth.

The truth is out there.

ridenrain @ Wed Oct 08, 2008 6:58 am

Not that afraid because this hinged on Jack layton being Prime Minister.
Canadians may dally about with his funny socialist ramblings but they'd never let him run anything of importance.

Reverend Blair @ Wed Oct 08, 2008 7:03 am

And yet you have to attack him in every thread and spread untruths to do it. It seems to me that you are very afraid that Jack is beating you, Riden. Could it be that your masters are looking at the numbers and panicking?

This rumour is a bunch of crap.. to find out the answer, I called the Layton campaign headquarters... no such thing was ever promised.. I asked if they could email me that and they said sure.. so waiting.. the fact that the torys are going down the drain has alot of the party faithful grasping at anything.. but lying and making up stories or ridiculing someones handicap or language skills is not new to the bastard child of the reform party...
