Liberal leadership begins. Dions body isn't even cold yet
Reverend Blair Reverend Blair:
The only guy you've who can do the job is Prentice, and the old Reformers and so-cons aren't going to accept that.
This sounds interesting. I don't know the guy. Is he actually qualified?

He's one of Harper's ministers...likely the only one who is actually qualified. He's an old PC from Alberta though, so the social conservative wing of the party doesn't like him much at all.
WHY oh WHY???????????????????
He and his wife were worth their weight in comedic gold. None of the Liberal Party pretenders to the throne are anywhere near as ammusing as the Dion's.
Come on guys, you've bragged him up as being the smartest man in Canada, the saviour of our country and a rugged outdoorsman like Daniel Boone, so isn't there some way you could convince the Right to Rule party that he should remain as their leader???????????.
It's gonna be a pretty dull parliment without him making his usual uninteligeble statements and then vanishing out the back door when the Conservatives table a bill.
Anyway as he bids a fond farewell from the limelight, I hope he remembers the axiom:

Politicians are wonderful people as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, such as working for a living.
We'll miss you Stephie.

They both come with baggage.
I hope it's Bob Rae....
The Liberals would be ruined in Ontario

Reverend Blair Reverend Blair:
No, Apollo. I've never voted Liberal and I'm not about to start now. We'll send Jim Maloway to Ottawa for the NDP in my riding.
What are you going to do if the Conservative vote dries up in Ontario? You've already blown Quebec and if your prediction comes true about NDP voters comes true, the Conservatives could be in real trouble all of a sudden...especially since there's a really high undecided vote that's leaning anybody bit Conservative.
I'm not at all worried. Last election, the CPC was not supposed to win any seats in Quebec and ended up with 10 because Quebecers wanted representation. The last of the polls showed losses for the Bloc and gains for the Conservatives. I would not be surprised if the Conservatives picked up seats in Quebec. 5 to 10 more.
I always thought "undecided" meant exactly that. Apparently your smarter than everyone else on this issue.
My prediction is for a solid minority for the Conservatives with a slight chance of a majority.
My reasons are as follows....
Conservative supporters are least likley to change their minds (pollsters findings)
The youth vote is the least likely to get out and vote so you can take away a percent or two from the ABC crowd.
Many want representation is government which means unexpected gains in Quebec and the east.

you need to do some research instead of reading the tory brainwash bible 101...
Micheal Ignatieff is not an American..and his support for the Iraq war is questionable.. do your homework before you post such tripe..

Once again there is a big difference between provincial and federal parties..
Bob Rae was an ontario NDP..and yes his policy at the time were the pits.. but he is popular as a liberal... and no ontario wouldnt ruin the liberals... after all --
ITS A GOOD PLACE TO INVEST....

Bob Rae is hugely unpopular in Ontario. We have a very, very long memory what he did to this Province, it's finances and the turmoil is caused.
Too much baggage. If the Liberals want to win, they have to pick a clean candidate (i.e. Ken Dryden) who is very popular all over Canada.
I'm told Bob Rae is popular in Toronto but less forgiven in the rest of the province. In his by-election for a seat in Ottawa he won by a landslide.
Bourassa was an unpopular Premier, lost an election and left for france, returned - mounted a comeback and became Premier again. People's memories aren't that good.

I'll tell you right now if the Libs ever want a chance they should make Dr. Keith Martin their leader, but since he represents a western riding it will never ever happen, as the Libs dont care about the west and everyone knows it, all of their leaders come from Quebec!!
Thanos @ Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:41 pm
I'd go with Ignatieff if I were a Lib. He seems like the sort of guy who could actually cough up a few straight answers without resorting to too many soundbites. He's probably screwed though as the trend within the Libs right now is more towards the NDP-ish Left. As he seems like a centrist he's probably SOL in the upcoming leadership race because, as we should all well know by now, Liberals never pass up the opportunity to piggyback onto whatever obnoxious fad that comes along.
