Layton has never done any such thing, Riden. He has insisted that we follow the various international laws and conventions that we are signatory too, but then asking that Harper not break the law is generally a waste of time.
Was Sue Creba, the riding association's president for Nanaimo-Cowichan removed when she embarassed the party when she wrote:
The motion never passed, Riden. It was shot down immediately. And if you actually look at he motion and the context it's addressing, it's all about not putting soldiers in situations where they are unclear as to what the rules are or if they are required to follow them.
How many anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-Quebec, anti-immigrant resolutions come up at Conservative meetings though?
Oh, and armed forces personel get one vote each, just like everybody else. Canada's democratically elected civilian government oversees them. This isn't a military junta.
You've dragged this way off topic though. One of your precious little unelected back room boys went after the father of a dead soldier for purely political reasons.
I'm mearly pointing out a like situation where something dumb was said by a party worker. You're demanding that Sparrow be fired and that he reflects poorly on the whole group and I'm just asking if anyone was fired for this screw up?
If so, why not?
It's a completely different situation though, Ridenrain. It was a preamble to a motion to be voted on at an NDP convention. Creba withdrew and reworded the preamble, and the motion was voted down. It wasn't done for cheap partisan reasons. It shouldn't have even made the press. It was a non-story.
In Sparrow's case he went to the press to try to discredit somebody who had criticized Conservative policy during an election campaign. It was cheap political hackery. Sparrow doesn't work at the riding level either. He was the communications director for the Conservative campaign, and when there's no election on he works in the PMO.
Oh yeah.. completely different..
How about this one?
It's the nick-name that Overloard Steven Bushy-McSame Harper suggested in his talking point memo.
To tell the truth, I've always prefered the NDP over the Liberals anyways. The NDP have a position and a direction and they are mostly consistant. Their platform neatly bookends the Conservative position and direction. What I don't like are unprincipled and wishy washy parties like the Libs that will morph into any shape to soak up votes.
I'm all for the NDP getting more votes. I can't see the NDP luring Tory votes away so the big losers out of this will be the Liberals.
It's just a left wing version of the 'vote splitting' that the right encountered with Reform and the Conservative parties.
The other scenario is that the Greens may take votes from both the Libs and NDP.
IMO though May is quite annoying and borders on being shrill, which could harm her perceived public persona during the TV debate.
On the topic in question, Sparrow made a bone-head move and should have known better. He deserved to go.
On the plus side, Harper acted quickly and decisively and this will be a non-issue by next week to all those except the die-hard partisan lefties.
