Layton has never done any such thing, Riden. He has insisted that we follow the various international laws and conventions that we are signatory too, but then asking that Harper not break the law is generally a waste of time.

Does the high and mighty media expect to have total access to the prime minister any time they want?

Yeah they do. That's what their job is.

Was Sue Creba, the riding association's president for Nanaimo-Cowichan removed when she embarassed the party when she wrote:

$1:
“In such a situation, Canadian troops end up acting like terrorists, destroying communities, killing and maiming innocent people,” the resolution stated.

As Jack always starts off his talks.. "Canadians believe.. Well, Canadians believe that Jack is more sympathetic to terrorists than Canadian soldiers. It would be a hard toss up between the NDP and the Liberals for the most disliked party in the opinion of the forces personell.

Reverend Blair @ Thu Sep 11, 2008 7:28 pm

The motion never passed, Riden. It was shot down immediately. And if you actually look at he motion and the context it's addressing, it's all about not putting soldiers in situations where they are unclear as to what the rules are or if they are required to follow them.

How many anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-Quebec, anti-immigrant resolutions come up at Conservative meetings though?

Oh, and armed forces personel get one vote each, just like everybody else. Canada's democratically elected civilian government oversees them. This isn't a military junta.

You've dragged this way off topic though. One of your precious little unelected back room boys went after the father of a dead soldier for purely political reasons.

ridenrain @ Thu Sep 11, 2008 7:32 pm

I'm mearly pointing out a like situation where something dumb was said by a party worker. You're demanding that Sparrow be fired and that he reflects poorly on the whole group and I'm just asking if anyone was fired for this screw up?
If so, why not?

Reverend Blair @ Thu Sep 11, 2008 7:55 pm

It's a completely different situation though, Ridenrain. It was a preamble to a motion to be voted on at an NDP convention. Creba withdrew and reworded the preamble, and the motion was voted down. It wasn't done for cheap partisan reasons. It shouldn't have even made the press. It was a non-story.

In Sparrow's case he went to the press to try to discredit somebody who had criticized Conservative policy during an election campaign. It was cheap political hackery. Sparrow doesn't work at the riding level either. He was the communications director for the Conservative campaign, and when there's no election on he works in the PMO.

Oh yeah.. completely different.. :D

How about this one?

Apology sought over NDP comment on Karzai speech
Monday, October 1, 2007 | 09:19 AM ET

Afghanistan's ambassador to Canada says his country wants an apology from the NDP for alleging that Canada's defence staff essentially wrote Afghan President Hamid Karzai's speech to Parliament last year.

Omar Samad told CBC Newsworld on Sunday that one of his colleagues has demanded the NDP retract the accusation and apologize, because Afghan officials found it "insulting."

"We wrote the speech as Afghans and the president of Afghanistan delivered it to the Canadian people in Parliament, and that's where we stand," Samad said.

"It's an outrage that a political party here would not do its homework properly, would not go far enough into looking into this matter, would not understand how diplomatic relations, bilateral relations and arrangements for a visit work and would make such an allegation,"
he told Newsworld.

:D

Jihad Jack layton has been a breath away from calling all Canadian soldiers terrorists. Is he stepping down soon too?

You know, I'd like to get mad at you for spouting off about "Jihad Jack" for the millionth time today, but I can't. Know why? Because the NDP are third in votes, fourth in seats, and if they're all you can lash out at after your party (first in votes and seats) makes TWO serious miscalculations on Afghanistan in as many days then that just shows how desperate you are. And that makes me smile.

ridenrain @ Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:25 pm

It's the nick-name that Overloard Steven Bushy-McSame Harper suggested in his talking point memo. :D
To tell the truth, I've always prefered the NDP over the Liberals anyways. The NDP have a position and a direction and they are mostly consistant. Their platform neatly bookends the Conservative position and direction. What I don't like are unprincipled and wishy washy parties like the Libs that will morph into any shape to soak up votes.

EyeBrock @ Thu Sep 11, 2008 9:31 pm

I'm all for the NDP getting more votes. I can't see the NDP luring Tory votes away so the big losers out of this will be the Liberals.

It's just a left wing version of the 'vote splitting' that the right encountered with Reform and the Conservative parties.

The other scenario is that the Greens may take votes from both the Libs and NDP.
IMO though May is quite annoying and borders on being shrill, which could harm her perceived public persona during the TV debate.

On the topic in question, Sparrow made a bone-head move and should have known better. He deserved to go.
On the plus side, Harper acted quickly and decisively and this will be a non-issue by next week to all those except the die-hard partisan lefties.

Whats it like to be the laughing stock of Canada ?
