Pastry is actually easy - the trick is to remember not to overwork it.

Best ever turkey leftovers...

Place bite-sized pieces of turkey in a casserole dish, top with spoonfuls of stuffing and gravy. Layer various veggies and top with mashed potatoes (or mix with sweet potatoes if you cooked them) Reheat for dinner the next night.

Mmmmm......

Sounds yum!

Alright, so I want to try a new recipe - linguine with aspargus, chicken, and gargonzola - and I'm wondering specifically about the gorgonzola.

I bought some yesterday and decided to try it, and I have to say, while I like strong cheeses, I'm not a fan of blue cheese on its own. My question is whether cooking with gorgonzola is a lot different than eating it plain... the rest of it sounds really good so I don't want the whole thing to taste like garbage because of the cheese sauce.

That sounds pretty damn good.

I might actually try that tonight, only with chicken 'cause I just don't have the time to cook a whole turkey. :P

Of course, since I've been awake all night already, I might just end up sleeping through the day/evening.

Mmm, lots of gravy. Will do.

Thanks. :D Otherwise I'd probably nuke some Pizza Pops.

The turkey turned out great but I wasn't quite as successful with the gravy but i think if I work out a good way of stirring while I add something it'll be better. I got a good amount of turkey stock and I've got a lovely soup to make tomorrow Now THAT's comfort food.

I miss my Mom's (and my ex's) turkey pies though. I can't for the life of me handle pastry

Cheat! Every grocery store's frozen section has pie/tart shells for a couple of bucks.

The best way is to cut the cheese into cubes/chunks and add it just before you serve it (while the sauce is still hot) and toss once. That way the cheese will retain it's flavour better.

Yeah, that's actually the opposite of what I was hoping to do

I tried another piece of it after I posted that message... it wasn't that bad now that I half know what to expect, so I'm not that worried.

I'll post the recipe if it's really good - it's from a cookbook I got for Valentine's day this year... apparently asparagus is considered an aphrodisiac, but I just like the taste

With regard to the turkey dinner leftovers, I did something very similar one year after Thanksgiving, as a pie. Mixed the vegetables, pieces of turkey, stuffing, and some gravy and made little pot pies.... little mini turkey dinners to put in the freezer.

I have another question: can rice be cooked using a regular bamboo steamer?

ArmyMan @ Fri May 11, 2007 7:05 am

I don't think you can BN, you need liquid to cook rice and I don't think that the steam would do it. But hey, give it a try and let us know.
