haha, thanks DrC... I found out a local place - Pete's Frootique - sells sashimi-grade tuna and salmon; they knew exactly what I was talking about, so that's good.
Haven't tried it since that first night, but I'm guessing we'll have another go soon!
I just get it at 7-11 or at the supermarket deli usually. As this was a former Japanese territory, Japanese food is very popular and cheap sushi joints abound. I like sushi , but sashimi is merely bait to me. Anything with roe or raw seafood is off the menu for me.
I like the fish as long as it's cooked and I'll likely have some for lunch.
I guess we are spoiled out here on the West Coast, with so many fine Japanese eateries. I found a little place not to far from home...started out as just a Japanese market, but now is a great little restaurant with a great takeout menu. The thing that kept me comming back was the day I asked for some Yellowfin Tuna....he wouldn't sell me any when I told him it was for Sashimi.....said it was not fresh enough, then took it all out of the display case. The next time I was there he gave me a beautiful chunk of it ....delicious....I just can't see myself buying Sashimi grade tuna from a place called "Pete's Frootique "
even better, fish + fire
look great but where is seaweed?
It's there... it's called inside-out maki because it's rolled with the rice on the outside.
Makes it a little harder to roll, but it tastes better since the seaweed's not the first thing you taste.
Because it tastes SO FSCKING GOOD.
Don't knock it till you've tried it. Just make sure it's fresh. It's especially good near major waterways. Montreal sushi is the best I've had yet, but I haven't gone farther to get sushi.
I recommend with some sake, warmed up. Really adds to the meal
I just bought a sushi mat along with all the ingredients a couple weeks ago myself and my roll turned out better than I expected! I have only made my favorite, cucumber and avocado so far but would like to try different ingredients! any suggestions? My mouth is watering just thinking about it, yum! lol
