I see all these articles which talk about ways to quit smoking . I think they are all bogus but at least there is a growing supply of methods to choose from , including the insane price of tobacco . I probably chose the most complicated way to stop , but here I am 12 days later and still smoke free [cheer] I hope it lasts because I do have temptations ...supposedly you should begin tasting food again and regaining your sense of smell within a few days after quitting ...the truth is neither of these things have occurred and infact I don't feel any better but don't feel any worse either . Don't get me wrong I am glad that I am smoke free and My wallet is very happy but When is this Utopia of health supposed to kick in or does it ?

Good for you!

As a nonsmoker, I truly don't understand people who smoke in this day and age with all the information about how bad it is for you.

Gradually over a few months.

Keep it up Banff! You can be proud of yourself! There will come a day you don't even think about it anymore.

SSC is right, it takes a while to get your sense of smell and taste back...

Smoking is a dirty habbit and i am sure you did not become addicted overnight so it will takes a while to get ovr it too.

Even after a few hours I notice the difference, mostly just have more energy get tired less by physical exertion. After a week or so everything tastes better and feel better in general.

The cravings can be a real bitch though, making you forget all the benefits you have gained. I haven't successfully quit yet even once going 2 months Cold Turkey(although not on purpose). Just one day I was ready to kill for a smoke. Cravings, they say, will become less frequent in time, but even those who successfully quit still get them many years after quitting. You just have to find a way to get through them. ;)

From what I understand it takes about a week to get over the physical addiction. After that it’s a matter of breaking habits and changing behaviours.

I’ve been quit twelve years now. I have no desire for a smoke whatsoever but it’s funny the little behaviours that still stick around. Even now I occasionally catch myself reaching into the breast pocket of my fishing vest or into the side pouch of my tool belt for a smoke pack that isn’t there.

Ya, when I try quitting I always have this feeling that I forgot to do something. Even when I realize why I feel that way, the feeling still lingers.

When the urges get too strong, go for a run, lift weights, take the dog for a walk. Been almost a year and am looking forward to many more without. Don't, repeat don't, give in to the temptations!

I tried to quit 3 times already but never succeeded.. Has any of you ever tried "CRAVE RX DROPS FOR NICOTINE WITHDRAWAL"??? I'm thinking of using that but i'm really reluctant!! they're on sale at this canadian pharmacy, i wish i could stop by myself.... drug is the last alternative i want to turn to, Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work?

I found it easy to quit after an MI ...I'm too afraid to smoke now . I thought the temptations to light up would be worse but really they're not that bad and it's been almost one month . The one thing I will say that is a lie , is that people will tell you you get your sense of taste back and your sense of smell . Both are total bullshit and or false .I smoked for 30 years and don't feel any different but even though I don't feel healthier I am healthier . I'll never criticize a smoker , but I will be on 5 different daily meds for the rest of my life because of it .

Nicotine withdrawal is 8 hours. So every morning, after you wake up, the nicotine-addiction. It is a matter of changing habbits. And changing habbits is hard. That's what makes quiting smoking or loosing weight so hard.

I would say those drugs are only to give you a fake feeling of doing the right thing, and there's only one getting rich from it, which will not be you ;-)

May I ask why you couldn't hang to being quit?
