NHL has an emotional neutrality problem with hockey fans

PENATRATOR PENATRATOR:
Hockey is not dead in Canada. The NHL is only one form of it that has become far to much commercial and expensive for the average Joe.
Drop into a local rink and watch some minor hockey games. Major Jr or Jr A/B. People playing because they love the sport not the money (yet).
Hockey is alive and well in it's purest form. The NHL can suck a dick if thye think they are getting any money from me. No NHL themed Christmas presents this year. No roadtrips to games, fuck them.
Just too bad for me that my beloved Peterborough Petes are having their worst season in half a century.
PENETRATOR PENETRATOR:
Thanos, good call, soccer IS gay.
Nah, soccer's not gay. It's a great game to play. It's just boring as all-be-fuck to watch. It's gayness is as a spectator sport (same with golf, btw).

I go to our local Junior A and B teams games. We have season tickets to the Juniors A's and if they're on the road I go to the B's game. In Grande Prairie the Junior A team gets over 2000 fans on an average night out to the games weather the NHL is playing or not. Hockey is still #1 in my books, just the NHL version has fallen far below the Junior B's.
And yeah, Soccer...... pansy dive fest.....
Every sport is different. Clearly, watching soccer isn't like watching hockey. It's a different rhythm. Myself, I don't get the whole thing about cars going round and round on a track, but I know some folks that love it.
I like to play soccer, and watch soccer, and coach it. AS a coach, we inevitably lose good players as they go into rep hockey, which sucks up pretty much all their free time. In the US, you got guys going into football, basketball, baseball, hockey, track. Here it's just...hockey.

I'm loving the strike!

The big difference is in that the US has ten times the people as well as a climate in most places that allow for a variety of sports to be played much longer than here. I'm surprised every time I hear about a big league baseball player from Canada - what facilities did they use and where did they play from September to March? Even football in the US is played for two months longer than it is in Canada.
Same goes for soccer - it's hard to teach fundamentals when the soccer field is covered in snow. Sure, we have indoor soccer leagues in a lot of cities, but I wonder if the game is really the same, given the differences in size of the pitch, walls, surface and so on.
That's why I'm never disappointed when we get killed in track & field at the Olympics - a huge chunk of elite athletic funding goes to pay for them to train in warm climates (like Florida and California), which means we can fund fewer athletes than countries whose athletes live there already.
World Juniors coming up. That's something to look forward to.
The NHL owners and players have reached a point, I think, that whatever way they divvy up the pie when the NHL resumes (this year or next) they are each going to find that their slice will be of a significantly smaller pie.
They won't see a "fan strike" but they'll see less money being spent, and consequently, lower revenues.

Hey, if you're no good at it, just 'fess up. No need to blame the whole game.
I'm sorry, it takes the kids half an hour to get into all their hockey gear. Talk about wussies. I'm sure the soccer guys could put on more of a manly show if they showed up in full body armour too. Another problmne with hockey--rich kids sprt. Skates, helmet, stick, body armour, ice time. Soccer: an empty space, a ball and a bunch of kids.

I remember watching a long time ago an athletic competition.. something like a decathlon. They had pros representing hockey, football, basketball, baseball, soccer and other sports... the soccer players beat the others no problem.

Don't get me started...
I love hockey, I really do. But I wonder if a Cliff Ronning or a Theo Fleury could make it in today's league, where it seems that 6' and 200 lbs is an entry requirement. Some folks even say Gretzky wouldn't last in today's league (though not sure about that one). Football (at least NFL) and basketball have already progressed to the mutant level. I hope we don't get there with hockey. I'd like to see a guy with an average build, but tons of talent, be able to excel.
Soccer is 11-a-side. Lots of positions. Maybe that's why there's still such wide latitude for players of all sizes.
Here's one for Thanos...enjoy!

Soccer's fun. It's all that cry-baby crap on the field that the Euros and South Americans do that's ridiculous. Seriously, you got tripped and then fell down on grass. Grow up already, diver-boy.

Agreed. Don't like it sneaking it's way into the English Premier League lately either.
That said, not to defend it, but keep in mind that the camera is hundreds of feet away in a soccer game. If you've ever seen one up close, it gets pretty vicious out there. A buddy of mine played a little semi-pro in England. They had a hot-shot Brazilian on the other tema, and my buddy's coach--a hardscrabble Newcastle type--was watching this kid amze everyone with his warm up and turns to my friend and says (picture thick Northern England accent ): "If 'e stahts the second 'alf, you don't."
Less than $1000.00 bucks gets you and your team onto the local short track...
Just sayin....
Watching Soccer (football) is much better than watching girls rugby (NFL).

I don't like the way it's sneaking into North American hockey.
