Canada once again raises most Movember donations
$1:
If the sound of buzzing across Canada kept you up last night, forgive a nation of moustache trimmers.
Yes, the final evening of November marked the final evening of wondrous moustache glory for thousands of Canadians, who shaved their Movember pushbrooms en masse as the calendar flipped months.
Yet don’t roll your eyes. Despite looking freaking awesome, Canada’s collective Movember moustache wasn’t just some ironic trend.
In fact, as of the latest numbers, Canucks’ Movember campaign raised the most money for prostate cancer research in the entire world.
By Movember’s count, Canadian moustache growers have raised a whopping $36.9 million already, over $14 million more than even the second-place finishers.
That second-place nation was Australia, which raised $23.7 million. Australia, of course, is where the Movember campaign first began around a campfire in Melbourne back in 2003.
Trailing Australia at no. 3 in the world this year was the U.K., which raised $23.5 million. The U.S. ($13.2 million) and Ireland ($1.6 million) rounded out the top five.
From a numbers standpoint, the U.K. had the most Movember participants, growing 252,600 official Tom Sellecks during the month of November, 2011. Canada came second, at 246,126, but Canuck moustache aficionados were able to pull in quite a pretty penny for their soup strainers.
Despite 6,000-odd fewer Movember participants, Canadian moustaches raised over $14 million more than their U.K. counterparts, an average of nearly $150 raised per entrant (the U.K., by contrast, raised about $93 per entrant).
Is Canada becoming the king of the moustache? Perhaps. Despite the charitable campaign’s Australian beginnings, 2011 marks the second year in a row Canadian Movember participants have raised the most money for prostate cancer in the world.
Last year, there were nearly 119,000 moustaches grown in Canada. This year, nearly 250,000. Next year …
http://www.everydaymoney.ca/2011/12/can ... tions.htmlI raised $160 myself - anyone else?
A couple guys in my troop did it. They raised over 1000.
Half my work place did it, including a few of the chicks.
I had to shave mine off after two weeks as it was driving me NUTS!

When I had my car accident last year, it was a female cop you came to check it out.
While she did this, all the guys there were checking her out.

The one that handed me a ticket on the 401 was being checked out too. But I imagine they were trying to figure out if she was male, female, or a juvenile bull moose
On an aside, she was actually pretty cool considering she was a bit of a twat lol. She pulled me over for speeding in a construction zone(I wasn't speeding, the construction zone was still a couple hundred meters ahead) After convincing her she was wrong, she then gave me a ticket for having a burnt out DRL at 2PM in the middle of July, despite the fact my night-time headlights still worked fine and dandy.
What was cool was when she handed me the ticket, I noticed that the licence plate number on the ticket wasn't even close to mine. I dunno why I even got a ticket considering she intentionally gave me one that would get thrown out in court if I had chosen to fight it.

Movember is a stupid gimmick for a good cause. I have mixed feelings about it.

I used to work at a sub shop where a pair of cops came to eat every day. One of my coworkers had a hilariously exaggerated crush on the thin blonde lady cop. She looked to be 21 or so. Half the time he'd switch with me at the cash register so he could take her order, and the other half he'd switch with me so he could hide in the back and peek around the wall at her. I took full advantage of the situation to mock him mercilessly. But, I have to admit, she was very pretty.

I feel the exact same way, I've always been a supporter of the hair donation though. Having a buzz cut and donating your hair for wigs, now that is a statement that actually does some good.

That's something I've been doing every 5 years or so since my buddy died of leukemia when he was 17. While I don't get the buzz cut look, after 5 years my hair is plenty long to use for wigs.
It's getting pretty long again and within another year or so it'll be ready for another harvesting.
