Canada Kicks Ass
Freedom to Read

Freedom to read can never be taken for granted. Even in Canada, a free country by world standards, books and magazines are banned at the border. Books are removed from the shelves in Canadian libraries, schools and bookstores every day. Free speech on the Internet is under attack. Few of these stories make headlines, but they affect the right of Canadians to decide for themselves what they choose to read.

Freedom to Read

Just recently here in NS one of the Valley school boards canceled a field trip to Halifax to see a play of To Kill a Mockingbird. Were it up to me every student from the time they are 10 until 14 should HAVE to read this and see the movie. The rage I felt after reading this book and then watching the movie was probably enough to raise my blood pressure to dangerous limits even then 8O

Ban the Harry Potter books? J K Rowling should be given the Noble prize in literature this moment! On her own she has accomplished what billions of dollars in dozens of countrys was unable to do. Get kids to read!

I still have every book I ever bought. Even tossing a book in the garbage feels border line fascist to me.
