Naw, these guys couldn't hack the military.
What we should do instead is start a Peace Corps type of thing. A few months helping REAL poor, hungry, homeless people might make a few realize how good they got it!
$225/month, sure beats a cup of rice/day (if you are lucky).
Mentally ill shouldn't be on the streets at all. Thats a major failure of our society, not taking care of these people.

I could see them not handling the discipline side of it, but if you are talking about tough wise, I don't think I agree with that assessment. These people are in some very extreme weather conditions, especially in the winter!
I like the Peace Corps idea though, alsocanadian; and yes, you did write something serious...
