Well his history certainly is 'shit'. We have guys, just like those at Vimy, dying in his country of birth to help bring it out of the Stone Age.

What's racist about saying his stuff is utter crap?

Come on jared, give us your input on why Ishmael has a point because I don't see it. The poppy glorifies nothing, we remember our dead with it.

If Ishmael doesn't get that he will lose a mark on the citizen tick test but I'm sure he'll get the free passport regardless. He can then bring in dozens of more ingrates to add to our war-like society.

Disagree with him, but he makes a few points of importance. Those points don't really have much to do with Remembrance Day and the Pro/Con of it though. To me Remembrance Day is not a celebration of War, it is a reminder as to why War should be avoided. Sometimes it is necessary though, such was the case with WW1 and WW2.

I'd argue that WW1 wasn't neccisary, technically we were on the same side as the original bad guy who committed the assasination. But regardless, WW 1 vets easily faced what should be considered the greatest horrors of war, and their courage and sacrific for their country remembered regardless of this.

There's a fair number of these bleeding heart soldiers as war mongers. It's a free society and they are entitled to their opinion. The worst of it is one of the members of my drinking group invites one to out Fests. I have to drink with him. He got a certain amount of publicity for not being sympathetic to Mom's of dead Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan on his blog Canadian Cynic a few years back. He's reasonable to talk to but I just feel like taking him by the ear and giving him a lecture on what he doesn't know.

While I don't completely agree with this guy he does make some good points. Questioning our motives never hurts.

He is entitled to his opinion and I am entitled to the freedom of free speech...He can go FUCK HIMSELF...Damn to live in a country where we have these freedoms and to articulate them without fear of persecution. :D

I wonder why that is anyway...hmmmmm

I agree he is entailed to his opinion even though I think he is entirely wrong.

Soldiers on the battle field are THE BIGGEST group wanting peace. They are the ones ending up in a ditch dead, they are the one losing arms, legs, eyes, lungs ect. They payed the full price of war, not us who sit behind the lines sipping coffee.

The red poppy is a peace poppy; the last thing veterans want to do is go back to war especially for "The Glory of The Empire". They are happy to be home even happier if they are in one piece.

If one wants to add a white poppy to the red poppy that is fine, but keep the red poppy if nothing else to represent the blood you don't want spilled in combat.

It's timely and good post.

Those that voice criticism of the poppy or the military might consider that it's because some died or put their lives o the line that they have the freedom to express an opinion.

The alternative is what we're seeing in Syria-Egypt and other Muslim countries that would incarcerate them for expressing any opinion the theocracies there don't like.
