And as most of us have sworn an oath ( like me ) and have no gripes whatsoever about The Queen, there should be no move until she abdicates or passes on.
But plans should be in place so now is a good time to make them.
I don't plan to swear any oath to Chucky or the upcoming lot of spoiled brats, and I don't counsel anyone else to either!

my guess is Chucky never takes the throne, too much nonsense has gone on..
He'll pass it to William..

What's the point of a monarchy? We already have a way our country is run in Canada and it has worked out fine for us. In Britain a Monarchy removal is even on there minds as well because the royal family takes in a lot of tax paying money, land and all they are is the government mascots or celebs. Most government buisness is done by the Prime Minister of Britain already and the Royal Family almost does nothing.
People want to go get rid of a monarchy because it's pointless, the whole kings and queens none sense is a old tradition that was improved upon. It would be idiot to take something that was improved to go back to some old tradition.
A monarchy is Canada's history and will always be apart of our history. Even when monarchy is no more apart of how Canada does things it will still be apart of our history and that is where I like it being. In history and not apart of the present.
So, how does the monarchy personally impact you? As a potential member of the CF, this is the stuff that binds us. Talk to any reg (except the Royal 22nd) and tradition is very important to us all. I'm suprised you want to join us all.
I'm proud to be Canadian, and a big part of Canada is the Monarchy. The Queen really does not impact my day to day life.
Prince Andrew was being considered as Governor of Canada after he married Sarah Ferguson,,this would have been figurative of course, but they would have set up residence and governor house in Ottawa. Personally I think we shouldn't be connected to Britain as we are now. We should be our own country and the head of state should be the PM. And if M.Dion had have become PM he would had to renounce his french citizenship.. Freakinoldguy.....M.Dion is gone.. get over it!

I think if we're going to be so radical as to get rid of the monarchy, we should go the whole hog and separate the legislative from the executive branches.

When I said 'us' I meant those of us who serve or have. No disrespect to you jolly civilians. I don't expect tradition, history and reflection on sacrifice to be core values outside of the military.
I'm no big fan of the monarchy, I'm just a big fan of the tradition that binds Regiments such as the RCR and PPCLI.
Tradition that is so sneered at by the average person is very important to the average military guy, for better or worse.
Not judging, just explaining.
I understand what you are saying, but there are some civies that are raised to respect the Monarchy, although there are very few of us. I might not be military, but My Dad, Granddad and Great Uncle served King (and Queen) and Country, through two world wars and Korea, so I have a very basic understanding of the core values of the Forces. but above all I am a Monarchist, I believe the truest form of Government is a Constitutional Monarchy. If Canada were ever to throw off the Monarchy I'd move. I'll never live in the Republic of Canada. God Save the Queen.
I'm all for the way you think, although my Irish heritage screams otherwise, I just can't decry the way the Crown has fortified the regimental system for the better. I'm sure even the odd New France type has raised a glass at a loyal toast. It's not blind loyalty, its a tie that binds.
Absolutely, it is the tie that binds. My Irish heritage screams that we remain Loyal and remain part of the Commonwealth, The Monarchy is such a huge part of our history, I really hope it continues to be.

Are you like in a time warp? I mean jeeze you talk like you date Laura Secord
See nursey? This why you lot should seperate.
You just hate our traditons and culture. The regimental loyalty to the Crown has always been a major component of the Anglo-Canadian's culture.
English Canada raised 107 regiments compared to 7 from Quebec, in World War I.
La Belle province then had 30% of the popluation.
7 regiments.
Nothing has really changed. You guys just hate our culture and heritage. It reminds you all that you lost.

Alot you know.. my dad was British.. born in Farnham Essex.. loyal to a fault and supporter of the monarchy.. but me? well I live in the now.. a proud mix of french and english.. have dual citizenship.. speak french, english and spanish.. believe in Canada and a united federalism. "We lot" are sick of you lot dissing our culture and our province. you think the only people who have the right to exist are the western tory faithful.. so I am proud of my British heritage and my Quebecois culture and french heritage... rich, full and proud.. dont je suis très fier! alors cassez-vous !
