Say, I hope some members would have some good advise here.
My buddies and I went to Number 5 Orange in Vancouver, after that we went to a bar called the Savoy on Hastings (cheaper beer).
There was this girl dancing very provocative. She was with a bunch of gang members.
My buddies and I got up to leave and get something to eat, rather than have a problem. However, the bar tender tossed the girl out saying she was under age (15 years old) and not to bring her back. Well, she wasnt with us to begin with, but seemed to think she was.
We cross the street and had some Pizza. Later that girl cam over crying saying she was being forced to stay with the gang members, and if she left they threatened to kill her parents. I think she was high, at least that what my friends said.
I was going to call the cops, but they told me that they could not do anything, anyhow. Now I feel really guilty that I didn't..
I went to the Covenant House to see if they could send someone to pick her up, but they said "no can do" and because she is doing drugs she would not be allowed to stay there anyhow. They provided a number of a place where she could get help. But only if she wanted it...
I did go online and search Google for "Vancouver Missing Teens" and found this link....
http://video.vancouver.24hrs.ca/archive ... 6943008001
She does look like the Odjick girl.
Maybe I over reacted, but I notified the police of an underage youth, possibly being forced into protitution who looks like Odkick, but was told it was not her.
So my question is, what can, if anything, be done to help under age teens in Canada?? ...and this young girl??
Why is there no laws in place to protect "children" from being exploited by preditors, drug dealer, pimps in Canada...
Why are the Vancouver Police so dam apathetic and uncaring?? The officer that called me twice bacically cut me off when I tried to explain what this girl said and looked like.
I spoke to a Police officer on Hastings, he said; "so you want to help this one girl, what about the other 100 or so?"
44 years old, can't have children of my own, but if that was my daughter, that would be one dead pimp.
Case No. VA09168332
I urge you to contact the Quebec police force who are handling this case.
It's obvious the Vancouver police don't care what info you had but I hope the Quebec police will.
call the Surete du Quebec 819-310-4141 or the KZPD at 819-449-6000
Wether this is Maisy or not, the Quebec police can pressure the Vancouver police to look into it. If the girl is under 16 years of age, the police can take her off the streets and place her in a group home or back with her parent(s).
And as for the appearance of the girl being high, there is a good chance she was being kept high against her will so she could be more easily dominated.
I knew of a case in B.C. where a mentally and physically challenged man was forcefully injected with heroin by 2 street level drug dealers so they could take over his low-rent apartment for their place to deal out of. If it were me who found out about it rather than someone who called the police, I would have found it hard not to take a bat to two heads before the cops arrived.
As someone who has worked with kids and runaways they all have a story and most do not want help. It is sad but true if hooked on drugs which most are they hook to pay the habit. The police will not get to excited least the girl is really hurting them selves . People this is the generation of unwanted kids and parents who really do not know how to parent .
BionicBunny, thanks for your reply. However, the Vancouver Police have already confirmed it was not the same young woman that was missing.
Nevertheless, it's still a 15 year old girls on the streets being manipulated by some really bad guys.
There really is a two tier justice system in Canada, one for the Indians and homeless and another for the rest of Canadians.
OldChum, you are so right, a generation of unwanted kids and parents who really do not know how to parent. So sad for Canada'a future...
I would love to know where this girls parents are, or if they even know where thier daughter is??

Say where is Brenda on this issue, or was she banned along with other Liberal chic??
I guess what it comes down to, if a saw a dog being kicked and beaten I could call the Animal Shelter and the dog would be picked up and cared for...
But when it comes to Canada's youth, the dog gets better treatment.
This is a sad case and I empathize with your desire to help. Don't get me wrong, if she truly is a victim then you are to be commended and I hope things work out, I would agree with Bionic Bunny and check with the cops in PQ or better yet check childfind's website to match her to someone there. But also keep this in mind!
I'm thinking that if gang members were holding her against her will then she wouldn't have been able to leave the bar alone and confide in you, I'm posative that they would have followed her out and ensured that their "investment " didn't just walk away.
I also think that you were lucky that said gangmembers weren't using her as bait to lure you into a robbery, it's happened elsewhere.
Excuse me for being cynical, as one that has spent some time on the street myself I have some idea of what young runaway girls can get into and while alot of times yes they are victims, alot of times they are just looking for suckers.
If she was a victim and had the courage to speak to a stranger about her plight then why did she not head to a police station herself, or better yet go somewhere public and call her parents (assuming they care about her).
Again, I'm not saying she wasn't the victim, but alot of people don't consider every angle of things. I hope things work out for the best.
You did what you could Trit...more than most would, and you give a shit about these kids again that is more than most.
If you like, pm me her details and lets see if some outreach workers can get on this....Dont waste your time with convenant house....they dont get that kids on the street are using, its the only way to numb the pain of truly no one loving you.
The movie "Taxi Driver" comes to mind for some reason.
I am going to back step a little from my above comment.
I guess the police do what they can at the time, and then have to let society and the programs in place take over from their.
It has to be a difficult job to have to wonder if your efforts led to someone having a better life, or just returning to their former desires.
I commend anyone who takes on the job as a Police Officer, it has to be one of the most under paid thankless jobs in North America.
Everyone seems to cuss the Police, until they really need them.
