ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Well, it involved the provincial gov't in Nova Scotia as well, because the minister in charge was moved to another portfolio over the entire affair.

That's what I mean

The provincial government can only issue PNP paperwork, and has it's own rules according to other provinces, but it is not a provincial call to make. I found out in the past 3.5 years, that government and businesses (ie politics and reality) don't seem to get along well when it comes to immigrations.

The only thing a province can do, is issue a list of professions in demand, and have the government put a stamp: issue first on it. Still, it has to go through the embassy. And I think it is not realistic for a doctor to be a taxi driver, nor is that a profession in demand.

So I say, the employer and employment service wanted to get rich over the PNP program, which was (imo) abused (or should I say mis-used?). And the immigrant should learn how to read. It is not hard, but in order to fill out the paperwork, you need to be able to read and write English. If you can't, you will be screwed. A visa costs the same all over the world. Some money, and a lot of patience...

yeah, we saw that story last night too....it infuriated me...wtf? these people paid all that money to be fast-tracked into the country and it sounded like they were promised comparable careers before they entered into the agreement.

So, let's say Burger King ended up hiring one of these people, they got like 80,000???? And the person who paid all this money had to pay taxes on their own money they received as wages????

The (Nova Scotia) govt should sue themselves for shooting their reputation and economy in the foot. How ridiculous.

I can see how people would be pissed....I am and it didn't happen to me. It's great that those who are still in the program will get their 100k back, but it seems the govt should return some $ to those who completed the program, especially those who ended up with jobs that in no way match their skills.

I'm sure there is more to the story than we know but from what I've seen the govt should be very embarrassed.

First of all, the program was run by the Feds. As soon as the provincial government was put in charge of it, they shut it down, as they should have, because it was ineffective.

They didn't handle it well in the sense that not everyone is getting reinbursed, but it's not Nova Scotia's program to be blamed for.
