PROUD TO BE CANADIAN
This entry has been coming for a long time. I've just never been quite sure how to word it so that it doesn't offend anybody (Koff, Koff, Americans...). So let me just apologize in advance, because either way, someone will be offended. (sorry.)
I, like Bush's administration and his supporters, think that Suddam Hussein should be put out of power. He is a horrible man. What I disagree with is the method. If a few guys had been sent in to knock off Hussein and some of the higher-ups, maybe the world wouldn't be in the mess it's in as this is being typed. But this is a moot point. The troops have been sent in, the bombs and missiles have already been launched, and frankly, now it's too late to stop it. The US and the UK can't retreat now or they'd all look like a bunch of chickens and Suddam would re-emerge and all hell would break loose.
Therfore, I hope the UK and US troops finish this quickly and many soldiers as possible come home safely, that Iraq will be free of Husseins madness, and we can all stop holding our breath.
BUT. All of this Anti-Canadian, anti-Germany, anti-France, and anti-everyonewhodoesn'tsupportthewar CRAP is really, really pissing me off.
Apparantly, some of the American people are quite displeased with us Canadians because our PM has refused to get us involved. Supposedly, there's an entire town in Illinois that's Anti-Canadian. There's some asshole who sells computer parts who refuses to sell to Canadian buyers. To that I'd like to respond :well, big fucking deal! Newsflash#1 We have our OWN Canadian companies that sell computer parts. To whoever this guy is, that's fine, we'll keep our money in our own country.
Newsflash#2 Guess what? Canada is an independant country from the USA. We can make our own decisions about what happens to the people that live here. In fact, some of our troops are over in Afganistan, working on the job that Bush left unfinished so he could go play cowboy. It was OUR choice, and we'll live by it. Maybe Mr. President could take a page from our book: although I'm sure our PM had many other reasons for making his decision, maybe part of it was he actually listened to his people, and chose not to ignore the multitude of demonstrations that have taken place and continue to do so.
A lot of Canadians, of course, worried about US-Canadian relations. Apparantly, some US people are refusing to vacation in Canada this year, hurting the travel and tourism industry. I'm not saying the relationship won't be strained, but what fearful Canadians have to remember (And maybe some US citizens as well, for that matter..) is that Canada supplies the US with much-needed natural resources such as hydro-power, lumber, ect, ect, ect. If the US ends up wanting to continue being prickish about our decision, we could (not saying we would) cut them off and from said resources and Americans could sit fuming about us "stupid Canadians" in the fucking dark.
I realize this sounds very bitter, and in fact (suprise, surprise!) I AM bitter. But I also realize that not all Americans feel this way. Some have been against this war in the first place. Some are all for it, but don't necassarily expect us to send our own troops over their to be killed. I'm just addressing those particular Americans(You know who you are!!!) that feel like the entire world should have gotten involved when Bush snapped his fingers and saif "JUMP!" Just because a few of us peaceful nations didn't ask "How High, Mr. Bush? Should we bring parachutes?" don't go being pissed off at all of US!
To those Americans who feel this way, you can look to someone else to play at being your puppet, because Canada IS NOT, I repeat, IS NOT THE 51st STATE! O' Canada, we stand on guard for thee, NOT ye!
But that's just MY opinion-
i think of a lot of us here share your opinion. I like how you ended your post
Go Ducky go.
DUCKY, YOUR OPINION IS JUST AS I FEEL.
I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF!!
~TWO THUMBS UP~
Nice job Ducky ! Now , if that message could just get out to the 30 - 40 % of Canadians that disagree ( in principal ) with some of what you said . Next step would be to send all your Pro U.S. business " elites " from Bay Street on a one way trip to wall street . And Maybe the EU , and other countries would be better trading partners than we have been . If you guys can just keep the faith , and weather this storm of idiots in Washington , then Canada will be just fine in the long run . Regardless , very well said .
Yeah Ducky, well put and I agree!
Ducky,
Chill out and it will all be good. Not all Americans hate Canada, Germany and France. Well, not Canada and Germany at least . Passions are high and people do and say stupid crap when passions are high. I really don't think that Americans have curbed the market in this area. I think all humans react as such. Anyway, go on being a proud Canadian. Think what you want and let them think what they want.
Take care and take a deep breath!
