Breaking this morning (lots of sources) is the news that Angela Merkel announced she will not try for another term as Chancellor and will end her reign in 2021.
This decision comes on the heels of repeated losses for her CDU party. This weekend the CDU suffered significant losses in the German state of Hesse with the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) seeing noted gains. The driving issue is Muslim immigration and despite Merkel's recent change of course on the issue the voters are speaking out.
Bloomberg TV says that Merkel's decision came after party leaders met with her and encouraged her to step down to help prevent further electoral losses.
Its probably a good thing, Germany needs a fresh face leading her.
15 years too late.
The damage she has wreaked on Germany and the EU will last for decades.
Thanks a lot, you old hag. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
