I want to set the record sraight. CANADA DID NOT BURN DOWN THE WHITE HOUSE! You were not a country yet. Great Britian did attack Wasghington D.C. and burn the interior of the White House.

That would be like saying we defeated Canada in the American revolution of 1776. Which is immpossible because Canada was not a country yet. And the USA won the French and Indian war. Which is Immpossible cause the USA was not a soverien country yet.

Just for the record I have not said one thig Anti-Canadian on this post. Because I will surly be accused of being Anti-Canadian for starting this thread. It is simply the truth.

Actually, Upper and Lower Canada appeared on the Map in 1792... so you could say that Canadians... in red coat... burnt the White House.

And I don't think that there was anything about being Anti-Canadian here.... No medals for you.

Yes indeed, the Constitutional Act came into effect on December 26, 1791. Canada was still a British Colony and truly self ruled country however. But then again saying that we didn't burn down the white house would be like saying Americans didn't fight for their independance, using that thinking i guess the french were the only nation fighting for US independance. So I guess we can consider anything that happened in the U.S. before the declaration of Independance is actually British history, and not U.S. history?

Its funny you say that Comrade RUEZ I beleive that anything before the revolution was british history, that is how we are taught in school here. IT CANNOT BE U.S. HISTORY WE DID NOT EXIST AS A NATION UNTIL JULY 4TH 1776!

This is a very grey area... for example Louisiana did not belong to the US until 1803... I am sure that the population did not stay neutral during the great revolution. It was the north against the south, and Louisiana was from north to south.

THis is a dead end... Canadians did burn the White House, under British control. So you can say that both Canadians and British burnt the White House.

Mario you are thinking of the Civil War which was north and south that was in 1860-1865. Anything west of the mississippi was considered New Spain. So was not involved in the Revolution. Napolean under and old agreement with sapin took it back and sold it to the USA for 15 million in 1803.

The militia of upper Canada, the British army, and some native groups all fought on the "Canadian" side in the war of 1812. I'm not sure of the details, but I know there were 'Canadians' at the burning of the white house.


Canada wasn't nothing one day, then a country the next. The title 'Canada' existed long before confederation. There were Canadians during 1812.
