Explosives, guns stolen by soldiers
Story here
Personally I think it's just a few bad apples and there is no need to put in more rules and reg. - but who knows.
I voted YES, but to be honest with you I dont like the insinuation that our military and soldiers arent honest
There was a case here in Winnipeg 15 or 17 years ago where miltary guys (supply guys, if I remember) were stealing explosives and selling them to the bikers who were in a war . As I recall averybody involved got busted after the bikers blew up a house.
I think it's normal that when you have a large group of people, especially when some are poorly paid, that you will have some dishonesty. I'm not sure that the safeguards and penalties are tough enough though...I mean if guys are stealing explosives to keep as souvenirs it must happen pretty casually, at least for small amounts.
I declare I have no pyrotechnics, live rds, blank rds or explosives in my possesion Sir !
Declaration you give after any time you handled ammo and such... lame a bit but..

If there's a problem we need to face up to it, not pretend it doesn't exist. Acknowledging a problem is the first step to recovery. As I said, I believe it is isolated, but I really don't have the info necessary to make an informed opinion. However clearly there are at least some dishonest people. I do know that the Canadian military is in trouble. Why?
1) Ever since Somalia (and maybe before) the general public opinion has been that the military is a place for rejects and idiots. Obviously not everyone in uniform is like this, but this is the perception. This has the potential to create a cself-fulfilling prophicy-type situation where intelligent people stay away because of the perception.
2) Funding - way to low. 'nuff said.
3) Moral - comes with LEADERSHIP. Ends with recruitment of qualified, intelligent people (not people who steal bullets for souvenirs).
4) Related to all above - perception by public that the Canadian military is just working for Uncle Sam anyway so why bother??
Quite frankly, I do not see anyone with the balls or brains to fix this situation.
To resume, elect me PM and all will be well. Plus I promise to review the crappy Ontario Sportsline 3 team parlay odds.
I dont live in Ontario...
Can it be? Not just a few bad apples ...obviously an indication of poor leadership and an evil government. Right Rev?

I also promise to allow the killing of slot machines after losing more than $100. However, you will need to obtain a slot-machine hunting permit.
I have a lot of problems with what the government and their predecessors have done to and with our military and I've had some real reservations about the leadership in the military ever since the first time I saw guys with military haircuts acting more or less like gang members at the bar, IronMike, but I do think that stealing weapons is just the act of a few bad apples. I also think that it could be slowed considerably if the officers took some real responsibility.
Just like I give the majority of your boys the benefit of the doubt when I see pictures of a few of them committing war crimes, I give the majority of ours the benefit of the doubt when I hear reports that they're so damned stupid they steal explosives as souvenirs. I think leadership is an issue in both cases.

lol. I love that speach! whats funny is watching the french guys in our unit try to say it in english without messing it up.
we are a bilingual unit in New Brunswick.
I rememeber one time after a training exercise a guy just gave the declaration and they found 3 granade sims. cant remember their name damn it! Anyway this guy isnt all there and he is a scrawny weak shit that falls out and gives us all a bad name and a headache. All that happened to him was he was warned and they where taken away. as I remember the worst that they superiors where worried about was the fact they had to find the ammo guys and turn them in. he wasnt charged and he wasnt even formaly reprimanded!!! Thats Bull if you ask me!! As far as I know he is still in the Unit!! These things wont blow up a house or anything but it is a huge firecracker that will take out an eye or take off a hand.
If the superiors wont take action to make sure security breaches like this wont happen again then whats the point???
