His point is true though; atheism deserves as much respect as a belief as any other religion.

Atheism gets a bad wrap because it is slowly making more sense to more people, and other sects don't like that.

   

We agnostics do not believe in god for the reason that we believe that there is some type of Divine entity out there. We do not believe in, as many religions nowadays say, "The One True God." We also do not believe in this crap about: "if you don't worship our true god, you will burn in hell."


We simply believe in a divine entity but that is is not any of the gods. Everyone is entitled to their own form of agnosticism in the sense that my personal view is that there is a temporary neutral zone, like earth. Good and bad deeds are placed on a scale, your life is reviewed by the divine entity and you learn what you need to improve on in your next life. Eternity with God????? No way. Which is why we believe in reincarnation. One of the whole points of being agnostic is that we don't say prayers. Unless you are part agnostic which some people say they are which makes no sense at all...


I find religion as a whole to be rather ridiculous yet fascinating to learn about. And unlike some people on this site, (not you in particular) I would never cast down a religion, say it needs to be destroyed, or that it is evil.

Ah it's so comfortable to live in a world of black and white isn't it? The only thing worse than a religious person who believes what they do blindly without thinking about it just because their parents did, is a pompous atheist who thinks they are enlightened compared to all the blind fools who believe in one religion or another.

I don't particularly think that either of you have corrupt minds. And be careful about saying things like "99%", because it sort negates the existence of people like me, who have chosen what they believe, and are surrounded by others who have done the same.

Yes, plenty of people follow in their parents' footsteps without ever stopping to question those beliefs. I don't condone it, and I think it's a sign of a weak mind, but I DON'T think that those people's minds aren't free. They're as free as you or I. They're just lazy.

Hello pot, I'm kettle. Thats why I said 99%. Very few question the religion they are taught to believe, not all but a few. Black & white? Yes. Either god exists or he doesn't. I believe he doesn't. When you follow ANYTHING or ANY FAITH without question it is a blindness. If you check my quotes I never said theirs wasn't free, only the USofA1776 was corrupt.

Ok, you didn't say that religious people's minds weren't free. I assumed that since you were saying that yours was, it was intended to be in contrast to those people who's minds weren't.

But really all I'm obecting to is the offhand "99%". Say "lots" if you like. Or "many". Or "plenty". Or "most of the people I've met".

But saying 99% is easy and innacurate. Or at least I believe it to be. I know plenty of people who, in my opinion, have never seriously questioned their beliefs. And I know plenty of people who are constantly doing it. I'm referring to both atheists and people who subscribe to one religion or another. Because of course, they are ALL belief systems. One God, the Christian God, Allah, Yaweh, Greek Gods, animal Gods, the sun God, no God(s), they are ALL beliefs.

So I would say, that most PEOPLE adhere to whatever their personal belief system is without questioning it regularly. Which is really too bad.

I think we pretty much agree on that.

It's impossible to know. You'll find out when you're dead and when you are, come back and tell us. I also find that things, in the bible were written for plebs 2 thousand years ago, give or take, to understand. (for example...if Noah's arch was a space ship, let's say....how would you describe an uneducated peasant with his donkey ,way back then, that it was a transport spaceship??) Why is God, a spirit/energy (really who the heck knows what !?) in the form of a human, a dove, a halo, or something earthly when the spiritual world/ life, during and after death, is.... what is it?

Maybe the solar system is an "atom" with a nucleus (the sun) and the earth (a proton or neutron or,..etc.) is covered with a mold (trees and plant life) and we're the small infestation of "bugs"/ "monkeys" that are feeding off of it / consuming it like a cancer, slowly destroying our own habitat (like a cancer does) til we, ultimately, destroy ourselves (like a cancer does). Maybe that complex atom (the solar system) is part of a complex entity, so far, undefined...? I wonder if some priest will be able to come and prove me wrong. Actually who can prove to me that my unknowing and unwavering faith ,in this theory of mine, is not linked to the truth or a complete load of poppy cock!?? Galileo believed the earth wasn't flat or the center of the universe and I believe the universe is far more complex then ANYONE can imagine, hence my agnostic thoughts and beliefs. When I die I'll find out....I think.
