Iran and Venezuela build closer ties

Hey,
I am bringing up this news coverage to get a better understanding of what everyone thinks of Iran and Venezuela's alliance. Well, I am more concerned with the question, Do you think Venezuela will ally with Iran, if there is a military strike against Iran? And, how will this affect the world?
$1:
The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is visiting Venezuela for talks with his counterpart, Hugo Chavez, on the first leg of a Latin American visit to enhance Tehran's stature with governments whose distrust of US foreign policy already runs deep.
It is Mr Ahmadinejad's second visit to Venezuela in the past five months. From Caracas, he will go to Ecuador and Nicaragua, where leftist presidents are being sworn in this month.
The Venezuelan Government promoted the visit, which started on Saturday, as an example of Middle Eastern solidarity with Mr Chavez's opposition to US foreign policy. Venezuela has been a vociferous defender of Iran as the US steps up efforts to isolate it over its nuclear program.
"Welcome, fighter for just causes," Mr Chavez said in a speech on Saturday before the National Assembly, describing Mr Ahmadinejad as a "revolutionary" and a "brother".
The two countries said they would use a $US2 billion ($2.6 billion) investment fund to finance projects in Iran, Venezuela and other countries. They have signed an array of agreements in recent months, pledging to work together in oil exploration, building low-income housing and assembling tractors and bicycles, among dozens of other Venezuela-based ventures.

What would venezuela do? except for economic assistance I can't see them doing a damn thing if Iran gets attacked
Abbas @ Sun Jan 14, 2007 5:12 pm
Yea, I agree. I don't think they have the sufficient army or even enough influence in Latin America to do anything. But, how will their alliance change things, for example, if Iran is attacked, is Venezuela getting it too?
If Iran gets attacked the only thing Venezuela will get is more bullshit speeches from Chavez. And no one wants that
Chavez will not last for the 6 years of his term.
I'm betting 2 then he's worm food.
Abbas @ Sun Jan 14, 2007 5:21 pm
Well, he is doing much better then the previous government in his country but I really think he might be able to pull something off with the oil Venezuela has but then again, he no army so I hardly doubt he can do anything productive.

Let Iran have their Nukes... but would it be best to Nuke Iran if they lash out at other countries and push their weight around ?

Not really. Logistically, they wouldn't be able to support each other in a war. The agreement is more political than anything. As for exerting influence in South America, Chavez really can't do that. Sure he can throw a few billion here and there with oil money, but that isn't enough to do meaningful things. And look how much the US throws into the region, if he would try to get close to that figure, he would bankrupt the country.
Of course, he is doing that now. Making all of these promises and using oil money to pay for it. With oil prices dropping in the lower 50s, I do wonder if he is planning for less money in the budget. The Middle East coutries did the same thing in the 70s, and when oil tanked, so did their treasuries. I hope Chavez will learn from their mistakes.

The only thing he could do is sign an exclusive contract with China for the next 50 years. An Ironclad contract, that the US would have to alienate China if they wanted to break it.

so Abbas would it not be best to say we point nukes at Iran and simply say " Have your madness but expect to be the Next Hiroshima if you play mighty mouse with weak countries ?
Abbas @ Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:13 pm
Yes, I agree with that Banff. They have the right to their technology but if they try to mis use it then yes, nuclear strike would be a viable option.

you make a lousy muslim

you better go straight to the mosque and pray for forgiveness

....but then I make a lousy christian too...but I'm trying ....so I guess I better repent ....
Its okay to be a lousy muslim just make sure you're not too passionate about Islam ...its kind of over the top quirky passion ...
... I think you'll understand what I mean when I say I am not an evengelist that is going to scream to the heavens nor do I believe in miracles but my father died a few months before the millenium, and on his death bed when I mentioned God I thought he was going to get up and rip me from limb to limb but when I mentioned Jesus he smiled , cried and something he hadn't been able to do for more than a month because of all the complications related to MS (strokes etc) he actually spoke ...clearly ...twice ...full sentences

he passed away that night .So I guess I could say I feel spiritual warmth but I'm not a fanatic ... wouldn't you say Islam is a little fanatical ...you can agree or disagree if you like .
Abbas @ Wed Jan 17, 2007 4:40 pm
I don't agree, I think people just see Islam as "fanatical", its a religion, just like any other. I cannot agree with all Muslims and I cannot look at Iran as Muslims, I see them as Iranians. They have their own set of laws, traditions and culture so they belong to the same faith as myself but we have nothing in common. I wouldn't agree with Iran being bombed, ever unless they were the first ones to strike. In the case of USA, I am hoping they are the first ones to strick because we all know that they are getting attacked and nothing is going to prevent that. So, I hope they are smart enough to take out the couple of ships that US just sent to the persian gulf. They might get nuked after that but hey, I hope they go out like Japan, rather then being a sitting duck.
