I see no reason for a country-once ATTACKED, to just roll over and let president bush scrape the cow dung off his boots onto their backside....But thats just MY opinion....
But the US and Britain seem so surprised. They are actually suggesting that shooting back when your country is invaded denotes some type of terrorism.
lol rev blair
If I were an Iraqi I'd fight back too! Good for them! They have every right to defend their country.....If the US decided to invade us, I'd be doing the same thing! But since I'm not, GO USA!
This war sets a few dangerous precedents, Hollywood. It is a war for control of resources. It is war to get contracts for US-based companies. It is a unilateral invasion with a clearly stated goal of replacing the present regime with one more favourable to US interests. It is a war that almost destroyed the UN.
What happens if Canada elects an NDP government? What happens if we get in a trade war with the US? What happens if they decide they really need our water or oil or electricity and we don't want to sell it to them?
I know a lot of people think the US will never invade us, that they are our friends. I don't agree, especially in the present political climate down there. This war sets precedents and validates a doctrine that allows the US to set the world's agenda.
If it ever came to war between are two countries one wonders how much the Canadian military would be able to do. That said, I don't think the Canadian people would just role over and die. Quit possibly the US could find itself in a nasty situation. Plus the international fallout.
Here's one Canadian who won't role over and die for the Americans
I suppose an actual military invasion of Canada is a possibility , but I doubt it . Things would have to get pretty radical in the whitehouse for something like that to happen . As I've said a dozen times in other posts , your greatest threat from the U.S. is a bit more subtle than armed invasion . It brings up an interesting question though , just how extreme would Canadians be in defending their homeland from a superior military power ? Considering how desperate some Iraqis are in fighting against the U.S. ( charging U.S. tanks with pick up trucks , and other suicidal measures ) It's a good thought experiment for people like us who have never faced up against total military superiority in an invasion of their country ? How far would you go to defend your homeland ? Americans don't have to concern themselves with questions such as these , unless of course a far superior race of aliens comes down to earth and decides the U.S. is too powerful for it's own good .
I don't see a US invasion of Canada as imminent, Buford. I do see it as a possibility though, especially when it comes to water. Things wouldn't have to get much more extreme in the White House either. As long as you have a government that feels it has the right to decide who runs other countries and a mandate to keep the cash flowing at all costs, it can happen.
The way Bush has gone after the UN does not bode well either. If there is no international body to protect us, to say, "No," then anybody who has anything the US may want is at risk. That makes the unilateral actions of the Bush regime all the more troubling. Since they've taken power the UN has suffered immensely.
I think Canadians would be pretty active in defending from an invasion though. A lot of us know how to use guns. Quite a few of us have blown rocks and stumps out of the ground with fertilizer and Diesel fuel. If you look back over history you'll find that we've always mustered a pretty decent fighting force despite our small size. Even with our complete lack of adequate military spending in recent years our troops are well trained and effective.
Can we stand up to a force like the US? No, we probably couldn't even stand up to New Zealand. Can we make their lives so difficult that they take their bat and ball and go home? I think we can manage that. I wouldn't charge a tank with my big green truck, that's just silly. I would use that truck to haul things that could be cobbled together to disable the tank though.
You forgot Hollywoodhitman - that's one helluva tactical weapon . Anyway , I like to think that " Bush whacked " will be gone from office in 2004 , and maybe the next administration will be able to repair the damage he's done . If not , the U.S. will be too busy invading other axis of evil countries to mess with Canada . And if America goes up against China , then defending your sovereignty will be the least of your concerns ( WW III ) .
