Warning: This opinion piece is pro-Israel. May cause heartburn, and steam emission from ears for some anti-Israel zealots.

Basically Obama is getting a history lesson on where the line is drawn on Jerusalem.

Is there nothing that Obama can't do?

I've read this on several sites. It is amazing how much Obama seems to be going out of his way to kiss Arab/Muslim ass while giving our long-term allies a view of HIS ass.

I am waiting for him to declair Muslim law in the US.

Israel is ALWAYS telling us to get bent. We have an American mind set(whipped) that Israel can do no wrong. Even when they are killing Americans (USS Liberty 1965).

The US has remained remarkably silent when Israel starts it's offensives.

The only time we displayed any testosterone was when BIBI came to Washington and gave President Clinton an arrogant belligerent talking down to that Clinton flew into a rage that took him quite some time to come down.

We now have a President to recognises that yes Israel is a good country, still the only democracy in that part of the world and that yest the Israeli Army works very hard to limit collateral damage done by their weapons where the Arabs couldn't care less who get hurt.

Israel is a good country and a model for the region, but there are other people in the areas that have their natural rights too.

As for Sharia law that is a disgrace. In Afganistan they passed laws where marital rape is okay, you can beat your wife, honour killings are a good way to go, stoning rape victims is okay (the women were obvious asking for it) and you can get off if you marry your rape victim ! The sad thing is that the people passing these laws think that they are being noble and good.

Those people need to get bent, not the Americans or the Israeli of the intelligent arabs but those people.

Israelis are assholes. But they're needed. Without them Africa would be 100% Islamic or close to it. They act as a sort of a buffer zone that keeps middle easterners from pouring into the dark continent. Possibly turning it darker (see: Sudan to see what happens when Arabs move in).

I believe the British knew this when they mandated Israel. The British have always disliked Islam's effect on the mind. Israel acts as wedge to separate the Islamic world from spreading further south.

It’s a good thing having a democracy around since every Islamic country turns theocratic or de-facto theocratic one way or another.

Israel would be daft to hand over Jerusalem, or even half of it over the Palestinians. They’ll just turn it into shit.

Sorry Sock,it's a few centuries too late . All of North Africa is Arab and Muslim , from the Red Sea in the east all the way to the Atlantic in the west. Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Algeria, Morroco those are all Arab countries. They sent their own missionaries, soldiers, traders and slavers out centuries ago and converted large swathes of Black Africa to Islam. Israel didn't come along until 1948.

I know. Black Africa didn't get it as bad the Berbers and ancient Egyptians, who were slaughtered by Arabs by the millions or simply displaced.

Israel stopped the flow. Arabs were pouring into the continent like water in a jar.

I know its a bit off topic but t just goes to show that the most technically proficient civilization doesn't always win.

Arabs poured in such vast numbers that they managed to complete displace and eradicate whole civilizations and people. The migration has continued even until the 40s. Israel is good wedge that stops peasants from crossing by foot. It has made mass Arab migration far more difficult.

The issue of settlement in Jerusalem seems pretty clear cut. Interference in what is an open, fair policy is a bad idea. I hope we can all agree with Netanyahu on that.

There are ways around Israel. Just thought you should know.

Congratulations Pseudonym. You have won my monthly "Actually-Read-the-Article" award. Unfortunately this award can only be given out monthly now due to a lack of nominees.

Agreed. Somalia and Tunisia come to mind.

I may be crazy, but I like to keep informed and on topic every now and then. It seems a bit early in the thread to veer that far off target anyway. The first page should at least reflect some coherent train of thought.

There's nothing like driving a thread off the bridge causing it to burst into flames.

Anyhow…
Israel says one thing, it does another. Developing Jerusalem and increasing the value its real estate is no brainer. While they do so, they will claim they’re not.
