The primary "authority" for this article, Bernard Lewis, is a man with a definite agenda. You can hear him praised by Daniel Pipes and other stridently anti-Islamic and/or pro-Israeli partisans, but he has been declined recognition by scholarly societies who found his work "too political."
I would never lose sleep over anything he says. That a peace plan was hammered out within a few days of his WW3 prophecy shows how far off the mark he tends to be.

Well, lets be realistic, anytime there is active conflict like there is now there is always the potential for it to become far bigger very quickly. Anyone of these conflicts in the past few years, or any on the horizon could result in another global conflict with the wide reaching alliances that are present in the world. We temp fate every time we mobilize. Study your history people as to what started major conflicts in the last couple hundred years, the stupidity and chance happenings will amaze you
