Colon ( spelling intentional ) did a great job at the U.N. today . I think acting is a viable career choice for him after he gets out of politics . DICK Chenney and BUSH will ( wait a minute , COLON , BUSH , DICK ? hmmm , something is screwy ) , Well anyway , looks like a showdown at the OK corral , complete with full gun - camera video . Time to break out the TOPGUN video , the United States is goin' nation - building !
question is, which mission will you choose to do first. North Korea or Iraq. I read some disturbing news this morning about the North threatening pre-emptive strikes against the US because of its build up of bombers in Guam.
Iraq should definitely be the only target , because North Korea can fight back , and the u.s. should only invade relatively defenseless places like Grenada , Panama , and Iraq . That way there will be few casualties and Bush will be seen as a great military leader . Bush and gang still say North Korea can be solved diplomatically , remember - it's O.K. to threaten the u.s. , as North Korea has - but you better not hide your weapons from the u.s. like Iraq has been doing because that's grounds for invasion ! It's all so clear now ain't it ?
hmmm. interesting. Read the news article I posted on the main page, and let me know if you still feel the same way. Iraq has no means to hit the U.S. We know Korea on the other hand has the ability to hit Alaska with a nuke. Thats just a little too close to home for me.
Iraq has the capability to produce Chem/Bio weapons, this should not even be in doubt. They had a very advanced Chemical/Biological program way back in the '80s. If Iraq has the actual agents then they do infact have the means to fight back. Korea, by their own admission does have nuclear weapons. I think it is prudent to handle the two with very different means.
My last post was meant to be sarcastic . Of course North Korea is a more serious threat than Iraq . Since Vietnam, u.s. policy insofar as military action , has been to engage in military operations that won't likely cause high casualties of americans . Of course , high casualties on the other side are not too big of a deal . Bush and his gang will tread lightly with North Korea because they have the ability to cause alot of casualties if it comes down to military action . And as far as the big picture , my country still doesn't get it , conventional military scenarios are not good foreign policy in this day and age . We can kick the bejezzus out of Iraq , and hang Sadam by his nads , but it isn't going to help any of us in the overall war on terror . Fruitcakes like Kim jong Il , could have been dealt with differently a couple of years ago , but Bush and his AXIS OF EVIL speech put people on edge in the countries he mentioned , so it's no suprise that their looney leaders are going to be defensive , and whip up anti american sentiment . Diplomacy and tact are not the strong suite of Bush and his gang , and , the u.s. is going to spend a FRACTION on intelligence and special forces of what it is going to spend on this pending large scale conventional , video game war. Fighting Iraq is going to INCREASE , rather than DECREASE the terrorist threat, regardless of what the spin doctors say . In the meantime , the North Korean version of Daffy Duck is threatning all out war - But Bush - whacked ( as of today ) , still thinks North Korea is a problem that can be solved diplomatically . For the sake of everyone on the korean peninsula - I hope he's right .
I am more concerned with North korea myself. CBC did a foreign assignment on N Korea awhile back, they sent some people over there. These numbers are probably way off, i dont remember the actual figures, but are in the general idea. Something like 80% of there budget goes into armed forces, and the mass majority of there male population is in the armed forces. They have a very large standing army, for there size.
The report also went into how this hole scenario is just to get the US's attention to follow through with the agreements they made in 98 about power facilities. They showed how N Korea is starving for power, there cities are black with darkness at night, and there homes cold. they need power so were forced to start there nuclear power facilities. If the US had made the power facilities it said it was going to back in 98, this whole issue would not have come up.
Keeping your casualties to a minimum is quite understandable , but if it is a major deciding factor in who and where you attack , it tends minimize the legitimacy of foreign policy . In other words , you only end up fighting those bad guys that you know you can beat . Now , after a few piss ant countries get slapped around by the u.s. , what do you think other piss ant countries are going to try to do to redress the imbalance in power ? Exactly , they are going to look for ways to attack america , and since they can't beat the u.s. in a stand up fight , they'll go after civilians . And some , will resort to chemical , biological and nuclear means because ( depending on the situation ) they can threaten the u.s. with massive casualties if they are attacked . As for Kim jong , there have been indications in recent years that he has been reaching out to the west and trying to get his country out of the stone age . As weird ( in a Michael Jackson kind of way ) as he is , he isn't stupid . Kim realizes his country needs to modernize , maybe because he's learned of the good life from all those videos he watched , and was slowly inching towards reunification of the korean peninsula . So , the current situation with North korea isn't OUR fault , it's BUSH'S fault . Labeling countries as an EVIL AXIS , isn't going to exactly reduce tensions when those words come from the leader of the most powerful country on earth . Do some reading up on american support / involvement in south america with some of the right wing governments the united states has played an active role in putting , and keeping in power . If you study ( just a bit ) , you will likely see some profound contradictions in american foreign policy . George Bush sr . said that the first gulf war was not going to be like Vietnam prior to going into battle with Iraq the first time . Well , DUH ! Let's see , Vietnam was a country that had a LONG history of fighting invaders in THEIR land , and there was little international support for fighting the Vietnamese . The u.s. also faced a very determined enemy that believed in their leader , and their cause . After the gulf war was over , Bush sr. said something about the national hang up of the Vietnam conflict had been erased , ostensibly because the gulf war had been such a stunning success . I guess in the end , it's up to everyone to do their own homework and make their own decisions , but with the media in the United States , that's hard to do . So , you have to go to other sources , know a lttle history , apply common sense , use your own critical thinking skills and , - AH TO HELL WITH IT ! , Just believe what you hear on the t.v. news and stop asking so many questions - the government knows what it's doing right ?
