Just curious, but what are the chances that the SARS epidemic was not just a freak new virus but some ones plan to cause havoc in the west? A Biological war of sorts? Is it totally out of the realm of possibility? Could it have been manufactured?

I think it just might be one of those things that just happens every few years.
It has probably been around forever in Asia or wherever.
It may have mutated to a new strain that effects people more than it did in the past.
It has probably been in the past a form of flew or bad cold and has evolved into something that can kill you now :(

I don't really think that it is possible at all. I think if someone wants to lay havoc there are far better ways of going about it. The other thing is you have to look at the areas that are affected. The states have yet to be affected.

Ripcords right. The first cases appeared in China. New viruses pop up all the times.

I think it's another virus. Virologists have been expecting something to pop up for a long time now...something to rival the 1918 flu epidemics or polio...and they've worked hard to keep these things at bay. They've been successful so far and have kept SARS pretty contained as well. They don't know if they've been successful yet.

If it were some sort of bio-warfare who would the perpetrator be? It would seem that only Russia and the US have the technology to develop an entirely new strain of virus and neither country is currently in a serious enough struggle with China to take such a risk.

if it was made, then it would have been more deadly. the death:sickness ratio is way to low for a millitary weapon

With closer global ties countries can no longer afford to ignore the threat of global epidemics which do not respect borders.
Deadly disease stalks Sudan

i have no idea if there is any truth in any of this but some asian friends at school said they heard from somewhere, that it was a us made virus, to combat over population in china and asia. Now i also read though that the first cases were found in africa not asia.

I read that there was a possibility that it was released when an international scientific team recovered the remains of an alien being from a space craft at the north pole. Scientist had no idea where the craft originated and could only gather 1 interesting sliver of information...It appears as though the alien's protective clothing had what appeared to be a name tag of sorts - much like a military uniform. After wide spectrum analasys of the "tag" the scientist were able to detect a series of what appeared to be english language lettering. They read...E......L......V......I.....S. 8) M.I.B. Baby!
Thank you, Thank you very much.

Think of the earth for a moment in the context of a living entity...what happens when a virus enter's a human body ? The body fight's back with it's immune system(white blood cells ) and try's to kill the virus. My point is human life is like an infection to the earth, and it will allways fight back...there will allways be new virus on the horizon..were just getting better at naming them .pasit03fat

Bio-terrorism or a biological attack by an enemy state is something I will rule out when it comes to SARS. Why? Because bio-attacks are designed to be quick and affective like a bomb explosion, kinda like Chemical warfare during WWI and WWII...

However, SARs being a hostile conspiracy, well, that may be something I believe. (not bio-warefare, something less direct) Perhaps the CIA or some rogue part of the CIA planted a disease that doesnt necessarily kill people instantly, but creates enough trouble so that that what ever country is attacked (in this case perhaps China), they will have too many problems dealing with the disease than anything else.

Notice how the Chinese Government tend to hold more pacifist views when it comes to Americans going to War? IE: there opposition to Afghanistan, there opposition to the Yugoslave air strikes and Iraqi airstrikes..

However, in the case of the war on Iraq, as France and Germany take a much more tough stance against the war, China said nothing. Why? Because the Americans are afraid of China, knowing that if China takes a harder stand than they did, it wouldnt have been so easy to go to war. However, china was dealing with SAR's far earlier than Toronto has been, far earlier than the United States annouced it will attack the IrAqi regime.

This may have been planned. Also considering China, being the Communist party, the US never would have imagined anybody being allowed out of hte country, allowing hte disease to spread (although they are far more socialist than communist a much more open market), Therefore, it is in the best interest of the United States to create such an attack, its low key, they may never be caught, and it keeps China's mouth shut, not to mention an improved relationship with China if China never finds out... with improved relations, the US will gain more access to the enormous market of China. Can it be a conspiracy? Or am I just not being unrealistic?
