With news of growing casulties it sems that the Afghan war is in a stalemate. In previous wars insurgents were controled using burnt earth campaigns.

Here is what i propose for Afghanistan

1. Construction of Towns which can serve as concentration camps. they would have a community center, homes, a hotel which could serve as barracks and residence to rural Afghans, and be fortified. These communities would be under continued survelence and with routine searches of homes. All live stock would be kept in the secure community rationed by NATO forces. Whis would prevent civilains from assisting the enemy.

2. Aerial spraying of Ruslter, a glyfosate 2-4D blend, except for poppy fields where a blend of glyfosate an Post wouold be applyed. This would deny Al-Queda and the Taliban access to food and drugs for the purchase of weapons

3. Construction of barbed wire fences in a 1.6 km by 16 km grid perferably with spring steel posts which would allow for free movement of tanks. Fence would be barbed and have non lethal electric chagre, as well as monitoring distubance or cutting of the fence. Video cameras could also be used.

5. Regularly placed guard stations

5. servalence and arrest of all persons outside secure communities without permission(civilians to be transported by NATO forces with a pass). Investigation by drone aircraft or tanks.

6. provide Afghan governemnt aerial spraying equipment to control drug crops in all regions of the country.

Let the Vietnamization, and the failure begin? We're in the prcess of helping make their country safe again, not take it away from them.

They aren't going to like us if we kick 'em outta their homes, steal their goats, kill all their crops, and watched every move they made, and then arrested them for taking a shit where they normally wouldn't.

They already don't like us. Those we would watch wouldn't have explosives, those we can't find no food or drug money of course if Al Queda is weakiening it may not be neccesary but it is an option to consider. it worked in South Africa.

One problem with the idea of no food and no drug money. Isn't a majority of the people that are resisting foreigners, who would be getting their cash n' food from exterior sources?
And it worked in South Africa 100 years ago, back when we went into battle rank and file with bright red wool jackets on. Now LAVs and tanks. And there isn't only 60k people in Afghanistan, and we don't have 350k troops over there right now.

The Boers fought using sniper raids and various other guerrela tactics, but the British for the most part tryed to fight a European battle. Okay, it wasn't the hardcore Napoleonic style, but it wasn't even as "advanced" as their WWI tactics, where yet again they would line up and walk over to the enemy trenches, if they made it that far...
Hence why the 350k odd British troops that were sent there FAILED to win the battles. Why we had to throw the women and children in concentration camps to win the war.

Mostly the British were slow to adapt to Boer tactics and focusing artillary on hills and using lances to raid snipers, leading to the development of trench warfare as an anti-cavalry measure.

The Boers fought "like those damn dirty Americans," using cover and hiding and waiting for you to pass by before attacking...

American's didn't use repeating rifles or smokeless powder.

True, but the American's had things such as large forests to help make up for that. Plus the British were using the same crap. The Boers just tended to find random German weapons lying around lol.
But anyways, lets start relating this back to the Afghan War.
How many millions of people are currently living in Afghanistan?

We have to build their trust first. It won't be easy because of the history of the region. They've been conquered back and forth for 1000's of years. Recently by the British, Russians, Americans and friends.

We have to beat the Taliban out of the Southern regions. It's happening. It does not and will not happen fast. Once the Taliban is gone and we can get full reconstruction going then trust will skyrocket. Then they should be back on to the fast track of taking care of themselves.

The only crop I could justify destroying is the poppy crop. Is there any other purpose for growing these plants other than opium?

Get rid of the drug monies and then the drug lords would loose control.

Afghanistan is much like Iran and Vietnam. I don't think the people really want us there until we can show some sort of tangible progress.
