United States vs Canada 2014
This is a reply towards everybody who thinks canada can beat the US militarily. I'm not trying to boast, but its logically impossible.

Your right ....as our military stands now we couldn't.
But brothers aren't suppose to kill each other enough of that kooky talk.

I don't recall anyone here ever saying that Canada could take on the U.S., by itself, and win. Such a scenario is too stupid to comment on. But if the U.S. attacked Canada, that would be a whole 'nother ball of wax.

As Gore Vidal correctly points out, the U.S. has violently interfered with about 80% of the nations of this world. And that's only taking into account the post WWII era. Now while anyone of these countries would surely hesitate to seek reprisals on their own, you can bet your bottom dollar they'd give serious consideration to enlisting in a multi-nation anti-U.S. coalition.

Yes, your statsfest proves the U.S. has the best-armed and most advanced military. So what? You've taken it up against unarmed countries like Afghanstan and Iraq and you're losing those wars by inches. Vietnam obviously taught you nothing about how a ragtag bunch of guerrillas could deliver body blows to a bullying superpower. Now Canada's armed forces maybe the butt of many jokes but let's consider some facts. Our military, meager as it is, dwarves the fighting forces Iraq and Afghanistan mustered. If American citizens are ready to quit against a supposed enemy in lands most of them couldn't find on a map because two thousand American servicemen had died in the effort, how do you think they'll respond when tens of thousands of Americans are killed fighting a former friend and ally?

Americans are fortunate because they have not seen war on their country in 140 years. How will they respond when Chinese planes are bombing Seattle, Russian missiles are falling on Philadelphia and German tanks are rumbling towards Detroit. How will you feel when French infantry is marching through the streets of Boston and Mexican commando's are storming San Antonio? How will they deal with Guatemalan death squads in Coral Gables and Vietnamese mercenaries in Marina del Ray?

How does the Cuban Zone of Control (the states formerly known as Florida, Georgia and Mississippi) sound to you. How about any one of 20 different ZOC's the victors will carve the U.S. into?

If history should teach anything (even to an arrogant American), it is this: no matter how big, how fast, how smart or how tough you think you are, there's always the next guy who's a little bigger, faster, smarter and tougher. And everytime you say "it can't happen to me", you end-up one step closer to Mike Tyson's reality.

But hey, you could always ask Italy and Poland to help you out. They wouldn't of course, because it would put them against the rest of Europe - which decided to back Canada. But if for no reason but a humourous response, you're free to ask.

See up here, we've spent the last 100 or so years playing nice while building-up alliances and friendships. We've always understood that the greatest threat to our freedom and sovereignty was not from some nebulous baddie across an ocean, but rather it is from the belligerent country to which we are cojoined.

Have A Nice Day, Y'all!

Sinclair's rant was made more than 30 years ago when most Canadians understood Americans to be good neighbours, and most believed that anything said on the CBC (who employed Sinclair) HAD TO BE TRUE.

Times change, and not because we think less of you without your paticipation. If goodwill for America and Americans has evaporated, don't blame anyone but yourself.

ziggy @ Tue Nov 22, 2005 4:15 pm

Were still neighbors,I dont understand all the US bashing that go's on at this site and others lately. Bet most here have a relative in the "States" somewhere.

Guess it's the war. :(

In the long run were all brothers.

And is it just me or does the planet seem destined for ww3 soon?

A pms'ing Biatch with pepper spray and a stun gun or a Canadian sniper?

I agree I guess the reason I posted all of that was because I felt I needed to defend my own country. If you look at 90% of the posts its hatred toward america and american people, stating that we're ignorant etc. Now I dont dismiss the bad things we have done, But do you not expect one to get defensive. You must admit the hatred here. And dont say I should leave because it represents the feeling Canadians have towards America and vice versa and we need to work on it. I can give you links if you need it and its not all criticism, I can show you many Ad Hominem attacks.

sukhoi @ Tue Nov 22, 2005 4:34 pm

And you know what is the funny thing? I dont even agree with the war. And the majority of americans dont either. The polls show that 64% of people are unhappy with bush. We're all not bad :D . Maybe we can clear things up next election.

This is one of the silliest arguments I've heard since I was a child.

"But Mom! They were doing it too!"

I understand your patriotism, but this should have been posted in the thread you are supposedly replying to, not in its own separate thread. All this will cause is more anti-American comments.

While I won't defend the anti-American bias on this site, I would argue that much of it is in response to some pro-US posters, from likewise pro-Canuck posters. I know I had a big bout of anti-Americanism after you beat us in 1996. LOL

But shit like that fades, and I now count half a dozen Americans as among my best friends.

The basic problem here is free speech (and I'm not being facetious). Do you think I like what Manifest Destiny, American, Hwacker or several other pro-US posters say about my country with great regularity on Canadaka? Of course not! But, being a supporter of free speech, I sometimes have to hear shit I don't like. Sometimes, I call them on it, and other times I simply look at the source, say to hell with it and take the high road...

What is the whole point of making such silly insinuations that one country is better than the other based on size of military. Militaries are worthless if you don't need one.

A tip for you though, offer the statistic to the Canadian Army as well if you're trying to compare, although I must admit it is futile to compare as we don't place much pride in military "might".

RyanRothwell @ Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:16 pm

One small note , just so you know

yes, Americian's have all the toys , BUT 80% of there special forces units come up to us for training.

I don't mean to fan any flames, but after the reading the long initial post, and being a former Canadian Infantryman, I know of what i speak. So yes Americans have all the toys, but We have the know-how.

just thought i'd point it out.

1) The US and Canada won't go to war because they are allies.

2) If it was the US versus Canada alone, then Canada would stand no chance. However, if Canada went to war, then the chances are that the rest of the Commonwealth, or at least some of it, would join on the side of Canada. So the US would have to fight the Canadians, the Indians, the Aussies, the New Zealanders, the South Africans, maybe the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis and even the people who used to be their closest allies - the British. The British and the Indians, two of the top four or five most poweful nations in the world, will be no pushovers individually, so combine the two into a United Commonwealth army and we could beat the US.
