Change. I think he likes change and having someone else in charge like democracy. The idea of being able to say who can and can not call the shots. On who's authority (best Cartman voice) is Mr. Bremer speaking? A power that can take your land away via gunpoint. Fine example for us law and order types.

Rev_Blair @ Sun Apr 25, 2004 10:10 am

You missed the point again, Karra. On purpose, no doubt.

Bremer is speaking on the authority of the Bush administration, Scape. A lot of his edicts are illegal though...against international laws of occupation and even US military law. He has no interest in law, only in money. I guess he gets that directly from the White House too.

The results of his edicts, those constant affronts to democracy, were very clear on the news this morning. A Humvee got blown up. Iraqi children were dancing on it. Not quite what Rummy meant when he said the Iraqis would be dancing in the streets, I'm sure. A predictable outcome to looting a country though. People get pissed off when you treat them badly.

Sound like treason

Thats a good article

Great quote.

Rev_Blair @ Sun Apr 25, 2004 7:18 pm

It's funny...I don't recall so much open dissent from members the military against a president. Not even during Vietnam.

George should be tried for his crimes at home, then shipped to the ICC so everybody else can take a shot.

Rev_Blair @ Sun Apr 25, 2004 10:01 pm

I've already done it, Karra. Without resorting to breaking the copyright laws too.

Here you go then - a golden opportunity - some might say . . .

'Bin Laden' Offers Gold for Killing Bremer, Annan
Thu May 6, 2004 08:33 PM ET

By Firouz Sedarat
DUBAI (Reuters) - A recording described as the voice of Osama bin Laden, posted on the Internet on Thursday, offered bounties in gold to anyone who kills U.S Iraq administrator Paul Bremer or U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The recording on an Islamist Web site said a prize of 22 lb in gold would also be given to anyone who killed other officials including Bremer's deputy and U.N. envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi. The reward would be worth around $125,000 at current gold prices.

The voice in the recording called for a jihad, or holy war, against the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq, Iraq's U.S.-appointed Governing Council and whoever cooperates with them.

"We in al Qaeda organization are committed to a prize of 10,000 grams of gold to whoever kills Bremer, his deputy, the commander of American forces or his deputy in Iraq," said the voice.

The pro-al Qaeda site captioned the recording "O people of Iraq!, a message by Sheikh Osama bin Laden, may God protect him."

The voice sounded like the al Qaeda leader's, but its authenticity could not be immediately verified.

It blasted the United Nations as a tool of "Crusaders" -- a reference to the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq -- and accused it of handing Palestinian lands to Zionists.

U.N. A TARGET

"Whoever kills Kofi Annan or the head of his delegation to Iraq or his representatives, such as Lakhdar Brahimi, will receive the same prize," said the voice, addressing the Iraqi people.

Brahimi is in Baghdad for talks on forming an interim Iraqi government before the U.S. handover of sovereignty at the end of June.

The voice offered a kilogram of gold to anyone who killed a soldier or civilian from countries which are "possessors of the veto such as the Americans or Britons." Continued ...

the rest of the story. . . .

This is a part of the Gold war to overthrow the US greenback

Seems the asshole credited with the actual beheading is a known and wanted member of the terrorist organisation, al Quada. No surprise there I suppose, but the decapitation is and will take this entire situation to a new low, or high for some idiots.

For those with short memories, al Quada is the terrorist organisation that believes in everything you don't - unless of course your beliefs are those of the half wit, hard left, totally and certifiably insane far left - the very same folk that would drag most if not all of you kicking and screaming back to the dark ages.

But I digress as usual. . .

Along with this particularly horrific display of barbarism, comes similar from those of a not so different vein at all - that would be another favorite of the far left - Hamas - who just this very day also conducted themselves in a manner that bespeaks the manner in which they would have you live your life. . . . they too have accomplished a new low or high for some idiots by dismembering the bodies of Israeli soldiers and offering to exchange these body parts. . . .

The simplistic can offer bible-type platitudes of 'eye for an eye' and so on and so forth and more of the same etc etc . . . .

I suggest a platitude of a different stripe:

Oh woe is you. . . .

Which begs the question:

When will George W. Bush drop the bomb?

Scape @ Wed May 12, 2004 12:25 am

Why would Bush drop the Bomb on land he intends to own?

There is no exit strategy.

Regardless of your political and religious persuasion, regardless of your support or opposition of the current Administration, you cannot secede from this debate. The decision cannot be made by default or by a political process that does not include the collective voice of our citizens. Barnett appears to be the only person telling us the full truth about this engagement and its cost: " . . . we are never leaving the Gap and we are never 'bringing our boys home.' There is no exiting the Gap, only shrinking the Gap, and if there is no exiting the Gap, then we'd better stop kidding ourselves about 'exit strategies.' No exit means no exit strategy."

I think I stated it on this thread earlier - unfortunately it seems I may be correct - but I surely hope not. . . .

Al-Qaeda says Canada deserves bombing
Jihad spokesman says Canadians were mean to Khadrs
Stewart Bell National Post May 15, 2004

ISLAMABAD - The Al-Qaeda terror network views Canada as a
legitimate target because it is a "selfish" nation committing
"terrorism" against Muslims around the world, an unofficial spokesman
for jihadists waging holy war against the West said Friday.

Khalid Khawaja, a friend of Osama bin Laden's who calls the Saudi
terrorist and his followers "the most wonderful people of the world,"
told the National Post that Canadians should not be surprised
if suicide bombers want to strike their country.

"It is very simple," he said. "As Bush says, either you are a friend
or you are an enemy. So if you are not my friend, you are our enemy.
So it is very simple. When you are supporting the enemy [the United
States] then you are a target."

He also said Canada was hated because of its military presence in
Afghanistan and its treatment of the Khadr family, notably Abdul
Karim, the teen who set off a public outcry when he returned to Toronto for medical treatment after he was wounded in a shootout in Pakistan that left his al-Qaeda father dead.

"Look at these Canadians. They have millions and millions of dollars to fight against Muslims, to send their troops, to send their weapons, and all of them put together, they have objections to giving treatment to this 14 year-old-boy who has been a victim of your terrorism."

Bin Laden first publicly encouraged attacks against Canada in a statement broadcast on Nov. 12, 2002. In March, 2004, an al-Qaeda manual posted on the Internet ranked Canadians as the fifth most important targets.

But al-Qaeda and its ideological theorists have provided little explanation as to why. Canada did not send troops to Iraq, its foreign policy is not particularly pro-Israel and Ottawa has not been overly aggressive in fighting terror.

He described life as a "cage" and a "prison" from which he hoped to escape. "We love it like we want to live in a toilet, and we just want to get out of it." And the best way to leave life is in jihad, he said. "So how can you fight with us?"

Mr. Khawaja would not say when he last spoke with bin Laden but his recent activities include helping the families of al-Qaeda members killed in a 1998 U.S. cruise missile strike on a terror training camp in Afghanistan, and helping the Khadr family of Ontario.

The return of Mrs. Khadr and her youngest son Abdul Karim to Canada, and the broadcast of comments in which the mother and her daughter praised suicide bombings, outraged many Canadians. Thousands signed a petition calling for the deportation of the family.

"You have paralyzed [Abdul Karim], your system has paralyzed him -- although of course he's been paralyzed by Pakistan Army, but it was under order of this coalition. To me I call them governments of terrorists, the coalition of terrorists.

"So you paralyzed this boy with no thought, you paralyzed his father with no thought, now the whole Canadian nation put together, they are bothered about taxpayers' money, that this boy should not be treated with this money.

"You have all the money to kill the people, you have all the billions of dollars to make the people slaves, you have billions of dollars to torture the people, you have billions of dollars to put up in the media to create false enemies and you have no money to give treatment to one of your victims. So what treatment do you deserve?

"Your civilization is selfish and self-centred. Just you want to live and enjoy yourselves and that is all, you don't give."

He said terrorist attacks would end only when the West stopped trying to dominate the Muslim world.

"We don't believe in killing innocent people but we would certainly like to send you into the Stone Age the same way you have sent us into the Stone Age."

You might try following the law, Karra. People here are perfectly capable of following links.

Typically instead of being concerned with what appears to be serious cause for concern, in your usual fashion of obtuseness you decide to narrow in on that which doesn't concern you.

What is it about the article written yesterday that offends you to the point you concern yourself with the unconcernable - are you an owner of this board per chance? Didn't think so - so piss off hollowman and go preach your $4.99(taxes incl.) internet ordination crap elsewhere, for it likely comes as a huge surprise to you and your ilk - some people may take this threat seriously.

You may want to think about that as you race to embrace those who would destroy our world as we know it.

Sheesh - you have weird priorities. . . .

No more than the rest of the world

Just as certain as death and taxes is the knowledge that we shall one day be forced to learn to live without oil.

Exactly when that day will dawn nobody knows, but people in middle age today can probably expect to be here for it.

Rev_Blair @ Mon May 17, 2004 4:01 am

Not weird priorities at all, Karra...I just think breaking the law because of laziness is a stupid thing to do.

The article itself contained nothing new, CBC carried the same story a week or so before it was written.

Do you think that peak oil will make the Middle Eastern countries more or less peaceful, Scape? Obviously the US, at least under the Bush administration, has signalled a willingness to go to war for oil. What of the countries themselves though? Will they start invading each other for resources?
