BBC NEWS

Interesting article about what was reported, what they said happened, and what really happened...

The first casualty of war is always the truth.

electricbuford @ Fri Apr 18, 2003 9:54 am

And the second casualty is appparently accurate intelligence . Herr Rumsfeld said recently that he doubts the U.S. will find WMDs unless the Iraqis lead us to them . Now , wrong me if I'm correct - but didn't the Bush administration state many times prior to the war that we had proof and certainty of banned weapons ? We supposedly had all this great intel on this stuff - why does Rummy NOW say we need the Iraqis help ? Sure some of it could have been hidden , smuggled , or destroyed . However, considering that we were told intelligence claimed Iraq was an imminent threat to us because of WMDs , and that Iraq had not accounted for a considerable amount of nasty stuff - Don't you think by now we could have found at least a little something ? If we have to depend on Iraqis to help us find shit we said we had intelligence on , then I think we need to upgrade our intelligence capability .

Cowtown_Girl @ Fri Apr 18, 2003 1:01 pm

Amen to that...but the thing that scares me is that I don't think anyone is even going to question it if weapons of mass destruction aren't found.

Rev_Blair @ Sat Apr 19, 2003 5:56 am

I will. I'll question it if the find seems a little too convenient too. A country known to have used WMD and they don't use them as a last hurrah when they get invaded and are sure to lose?

electricbuford @ Sat Apr 19, 2003 7:04 am

The U.S. criticized the U.N. inspectors on several occassions prior to the war . Now , the U.S. has been bumbling their way through in the search for WMDs . Soldiers reported to have been exposed to banned chemcals turned out to be just suffering from dehydration . Why doesn't the U.S. allow the U.N. inspectors back in to Iraq to search for banned weapons ? Why aren't there joint and simultaneous searches going on ? The U.S. says it's sending a couple hundred specialists over , but that it's going to take months to get them over there .

I knew when I posted this it would generate some interest here...

They lie as much as the Iraqi Minister of "mis"-Information.

Rev_Blair @ Sun Apr 20, 2003 7:08 am

So if they don't find the weapons no threat existed and the war is clearly illegal...no arguments left. Can we, at that point, have the entire Bush administration and the Blair cabinet arrested?

That would be so sweet.

polemarch1 @ Sun Apr 20, 2003 9:28 pm

No arguments? How about all the people Saddam imprisoned and tortured? Or being Arabs do they not count.

Spitzer @ Sun Apr 20, 2003 11:21 pm

Maybe the US should be held accountable for once. The CIA aided Saddam to get into power twice, the first time failed. The US gave him WMD's. So who's really responsible for the plight of the Iraqi people? Saddam, or the people that put him there?

polemarch1 @ Mon Apr 21, 2003 10:39 am

The US has already atoned for putting Saddam in power by removing him. As for giving him WMD's you'd better look to France, Germany and Russia first.

Cowtown_Girl @ Mon Apr 21, 2003 1:52 pm

Bush's whole argument for going to war was based on the fact that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction that were poised and ready to attack the US. It was because of this supposed emminent danger that the USA had to strike first. Now there are no weapons to be found...
Because they are having such a hard time finding these alleged weapons...the official story has now changed to liberating the Iraqi people from a horrible regime. Huge crock...the US could have liberated a multitude of other countries with equally bad regimes if that is their true motivation.

RoyalHighlander @ Mon Apr 21, 2003 2:28 pm

News flash today. A scientist who worked for 10 years said Saddam destoyed stuff just days before the war started and also shipped a lot to Syria also. Also he stated that Saddam backed Al queada too..
