It was a waste of your time to learn the other official language of your country?
Yes. It is a dying language. The only reason it is still the official language is because of crybabies in Quebec
the french language is part of who we are as Canadians....it's never a waste of time to learn a new language, especially one used by a third of our population
Many people choose not to learn French, it's not mandatory, and it's not easy for everyone, and they shouldn't be ridiculed because of it.
it's not mandatory to learn, so why are people so mad about the fact that people in their country speak it.
Core French in school is super easy anyways

Who's mad? I think it's great that people want to learn it, but not everyone does or will.

Oh my goodness. Maggiemygosh went off and became a communist while learning French.

Strange... for a country with 2 official languages that is not manditory to learn both...
I was taught Dutch, English, German and French... Not fluently of course, but the basics are there

i don't get it either...
actually, if I had more spare time, I would definitely try to catch up another foreign language. They are never too many IMO.

Why? we live in a free society, and as long as we learn one of them what's the big deal?

Well, while Canada is diverse, the reality is that most people who speak french are in Quebec and most people who don't speak french, are not in Quebec. Why bother make it mandatory?
I can understand the fact that in Holland you are surrounded with a bevy of languages while travelling 50 km into the next country, it might be useful to know another language but here? Nah.

Nick, tu fais autant d'erreurs d'ortographe, de grammaire et de syntaxe en Français qu'en Englais. Je ne veux pas t'insulter, je trouves simplement ça drôle. =P

Yes. It is a dying language. The only reason it is still the official language is because of crybabies in Quebec.
Dying language? Maybe. But we're not dead yet.
Crybabies? If you say so. I'd be pleased to uphold that reputation and simply blindly ask for more and more and more and more without ever thinking of the good of everyone else. That's what you seem to expect anyway. And you'd love to be right about it. It'd be great for your ego, no? And it'd give you more reasons to hate us equally blindly.
But eh, if that's the kind of Canada you want.
Unless you'd prefer a Canada without Quebec. You know, sliced in half and all that.
Having so little regard for the French language and openly insulting us Québécois is a good way to prevent things from stopping to suck. You want to keep pissing us off? I'm all fine with that, but we'll react accordingly by pissing you off too - right now mindless demands seem to work, so that's all good, but one day we might just decide to take it a step further. Out of spite. And I think you agree with me this would be the worse thing that could happen to anyone living in current-day Canada.
The same is obviously true for us, but that's no excuse for anyone to simply wait on the other side before accepting to act calmly and tolerantly.
Now if you please, I'd rather you exercise your right of not learning French without eventually turning against Quebec.

Haha, t'as raison, c'est Anglais, pas Englais. J'avais écris cette phrase là en Anglais au début et j'ai traduit tout croche en effaçant des lettres up peu partout.
Yogi @ Fri Feb 16, 2007 10:15 pm
Regardless of your politics, it is considered rude to come into anothers 'home' and speak in a language that they don't understand. To continue such practice and you could end up being ignored completely!

Blindly hate you? Oh you thought I meant ALL of Quebec. No. I didn't. I meant the Language police, Separatist, stupid little prick Quebeckers. Now if you want to include yourself into that category, go right ahead

Actually I am a nationalist. I want Quebec to remain part of Canada, but I the Bitching and Moaning to stop. I can't stand it.

I pissed you off by stating the truth? Seriously, on the world market, how important is knowing French today?
Stop If you want to continue assuming things though, go right ahead.
