Hi everyone,my name is Rick,I'm 35 years old and I live in Hove,UK.This is a small town on the south coast of England. I manage a gym (4 1/2 years) & instructing in the gym for nearly 9 years now. I also teach Spinning (indoor cycling) classes, which I absolutely love. I've also started studying for my Personal Training certification which I plan to finish sometime around June/July.

I have been thinking about emmigrating for a number of years now and the time seems to be best now. Only one debt (the truck) can be cleared relatively quickly so I figure, what the hell, let's start looking at the very real possibilities. I realise it won't be easy but if anyone has recently made the move or does know how the system works,I'd be very grateful to hear what you have to say.

Thanks for reading and not falling asleep on me!

Canada has a points system for immigration. You get points for various things like having a college degree. Enough points and you get landed immigrant status. An immigration attorney may be able to assist you with this--there are often ads in The Economist for firms that ease immigration to Canada.

Once in Canada, go to Alberta. The highest salaries by far are to be had there.

You don't need an immigration lawyer. You can do it yourself. Been there, done that.

Lawyers are freakin expensive, and you still have to provide all the info.

Oh, edit: enough points doesn't "get" you a landed immigrant status if you have a medical condition that costs a lot. Or a criminal record, and no ability to rehabilitate. It is all in the hands of the Embassy. They are the ones to make the decision.

Two sets of rules:

A Caucasian especially from Britain goes to the back of the line and stays there.
Better chance to enter the US.....then move north...perhaps.

You can't get into the US. You need a job, and if you'll ever get a green card is a different story...

It depends totally on what you do if you go back or not. And for how long.

Hi Rick,

Welcome. From Hove, are you a Seagulls fan? I am also thinking about the emmigration idea, although I have not yet got things moving.

Hi I'm thinking of moving to Canada as well when I retire from the Police in UK. Which part is the best? I am originally from Ajax. Moved to England when I was 6 so do not remember much.

Canada is great from coast to coast... if you need to work..Alberta is booming apparently .. Ontario is awesome but not Toronto..
if you have relatives here get a sponsor... people from the UK tell me they have encountered alot of road blocks trying to immigrate..go figure..anyway good luck and welcome..
Cheers..
