2012-2013

Scientists predict that around the years 2012-2013 the earth, sun, and center of the milky way (a tremendous fucking black hole) will perfectly align, this only happens once every (i think) 25,800 years.
And you thought an eclipse was cool
OH! i almost forgot, the scientists also say that this might cause the crust to roll around the core and mantle of the earth as the alignment shifts the poles causing nearly every volcano to erupt, massive earthquakes all over the world, the icecaps melting, flooding, and general climate shift and hell-on-earth.... also the Mayans, ancient Chinese (before Egypt) Merlin (not the king Arthur guy, but the same name and geographical location) and perhaps the holy bible, as well as many other 'oracles' of ancient times predict that in 2012-2013 the earth will be destroyed by nature.
so, are we fucked? or is this just another Y2K scare and the year 2014 will be celebrated by a happy planet drunk on champaign?
Will the world end in 2012?
Below the Maya Calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Just happens to be on my Birthday (end of the world, what a kick ass party I'm going to have.)

See, there may be something to worry about more than global warming. We only have a few years left.
Lets all have fun and stop being so negitive.

(shit next time buy the good stuff BluesBud)
I can always get the good stuff......Dude!
I am not a superstitious man, but I am worried about 2012 because too many people are predicting bad things are gonna happen.
About the Maya Calendar.
Why 2012?

canucker canucker:
it's all very interesting stuff.
Some say the Milkway (a cloud of dust) will block out the sun for a couple of years, and plunge us into an ice age.
Too funny. I'm actually writing a book on this very topic at the moment...I guess I have competition!

Nope. The sun, the earth, and the centre of the milky way align twice every year. Once when the earth is between teh sin and the centre of teh milky way, and once when we're on the opposite side.
25 800 years sounds like a figure for the precession of the equinoxes, a figure that's important in studies of ancient astronomy (for example, the star Thuban was the north star at the time the pyramids at Giza were constructed, and Vega was a decent north star 14 000 years ago.) It also determines, in large part, wheter or not we're in an ice age. But as far as galactic alignments, I doubt it.
Lastly, just because a few bodies "align" doesn't mean there'll be any gravitational changes. They're all exerting gravitational pulls all the time. Just because they're all pointed in one (very approximate) direction doesn't mean anything. They're so weak to begin with it's a complete non-event.
Scientists: No doomsday in store when planets align Friday
The Milky way is a huge dust cloud, so dense that it blocks out sunlight.
What "doomsdayers" are saying is that planet Earth with be far enough into the Milky way to actually block out the sunlight from reaching earth.
They claim; "it will turn the sky blood red." Sounds more like Bible prophecies to me personally.
Will the Mayan 2012 Prophecy Really Happen?
Well in 5 years, we will know for sure.
Or maybe they do now, but remember the L.A. riots.

Then "doomsdayers" should take a course in astronomy. The sun has cleared out our region of the milky way. There is no dust anywhere near us. Any accumulation of dust dense enough and large enough to blot out the sun and sharp enough to happen in five years give or take a few months would be blotting out half the night sky. That's demonstrably not happening. I know for sure right now.
While I will be following this, I highly doubt that it will happen.
I wil be following this too. One way or the other it should be interesting
Yeah, one way or another. R.I.P.

Isn't the milky way just the name of our galaxy?
