I guess I was a major car nut at one time but between the major ongoing expence and the difficulty of owning a nice car in the Vancouver area I've since moved on to other hobbies, in fact I don't even have a car right now.

That project looks cool and I've always liked Mopars in particular so I wish you guys the best of luck.

Truck/Jeep nut here. Trucks cause they just kick ass (I have a 2000 GMC Z-71) and Jeeps cause who the hell doesn't love inline 6 bangers (I have a 2000 TJ). Modifications are my thang. Questions? just ask.

I have a 1981 GMC 3/4 ton crew cab and a 1982 Dodge 1/2 ton. Both are useful, although the GMC has a rod knock that starting to sound a lot like Keith Moon, so it doesn't get to leave town anymore.

Maybe somebody can enlighten me though...what's with these guys who buy new trucks, then are afraid to do truck things with them? I've seen guys shovelling dirt into pails, then putting the pails in their trucks because they don't want to scratch the box. I've seen people who wouldn't take their 4x4s down a good gravel road because they were afraid of stone chips. I've seen guys at the lumber yard so afraid of damaging their vehicles that they hold everybody up while very carefully placing each 2x4 in place.

I think we should take trucks away from these guys.

I've got an `98 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro... which I guess is an ok car... but I haven't even driven it in over a year because I live downtown. The number 1 car I do miss that I used to own was my Midnight Jet Black 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe special edition... oh buddha did I love that car... I had custom chrome mags with a modded two stage turbo that drove circles around all the chinatown rice rockets in reverse I had it cranking 265hps at 4200rpm with 250lbs of torque at 3300rpm. Thatwasn't even the best part.. oh the seats... yeah they were scotchguard clothes seats but the heated-power-lumber-extended-thigh-knee-support-8-way-power-seat was one of a kind. I have never found a car since that has had more comfortable seats to sit in....ever.

My next "car" is likely to be a minivan. Read into that what you wish.

I'm a bit of a mopar lover myself, although to date, the list of mopars I've owned haven't included any of the classics, as I started as a Van guy, and have owned a few, and currently drive one, but it's nothing special as I've been in school for the last four years, so this is just the daily driver. I also bought myself a '79 Cordoba several years ago, and first replaced the crappy single exhaust system, with headers, to three inch exhaust into an X-pipe, then into flowmaster 3 inch intake mufflers, 2&1/2 inch out to the tailpipe, then I decided to replaced the '79 vintage polution control nightmare of an engine with an earlier 360 with a cam, intake, etc. Then unfortunatley I had to leave for school for a couple of years, so hopefully, I'll get the fuel supply figured out when I get back this summer, and get it on the road for a bit. I've still got tonnes of work to do, as I have to do something about my front suspension, I'm gonna see if I can beef up the torsion bars, and get some KYB shocks, cause currently I bottom out my fat tires ocaisonally if not careful, and I need to make some custom headers that don't hang quite so low. I've got a group of a few friends into mopars back home in Victoria, and they've got some more classic mopars; my brother has a '71 383 SuperBee that he plans on inserting either a 440, or a hybrid 478 that you may have seen highlighted in one of the mopar mags several years ago, he also has a '54 Powerwagon, with a more modern mopar 360, and more modern axles, and a dual transfer case, and a custom suspension lift, he also used to have a '71 383 RoadRunner. My other buddy has a '73 340 Challenger, and used to have a '71 360 cuda, unfortunatley it was in poor shape when he started driving it, and a '69 360 charger. Another buddy of mine has a '69 charer that used to have a 383, but when he bought it he inserted a 440 six-pack into it, he's also owned numerous other mopars, that I can't even start to list. Also when I was a kid this guy up the street from me started restoring, I think it was '65 coronent hemi, and another hemi of the same era, and although I only ever saw the Coronet once, it was amazing as a kid. Apparantly he never really drove them, and got cancer several years ago, and sold both of the cars off, for a tidy profit. I bought myself a 1954 331 hemi a few years ago, and eventually when I can afford it, I'm gonna rebuild it with some of the new aftermarket parts available from the states. Alright that's a bit of a long post for my first so I'll stop soon.

Just one question, has that car been highlighted in any of the Mopar magazines? I'm not the biggest fan of Car Craft, and generally stick to the Mopar specific magazines, though I've really curbed the buying of magazines while I've been in school, darn books are so expensive!

edit:spelling

It was Easter weekend 1979 I bought a 68 Chevell from an old woman who hadn't driven in about 5yrs.The interior was mint.Had 23000 miles on it.
The paint was fadded & had Alot of bottom rust including floor.Real nice project car.I slowly began fixing it up in my back yard(no garage)I had holes all patched, redone the wheelwells& rockerpannels, sanded all surfice rust .Primed all the work & was waitting to get my buddy to take it to his shop for paint.I come home from work one night & noticed something strange about the front.Walking closer I realised My darling little boys aged
twins 4yrs& 5yr old had shoved a 5ft prybar through the grill & rad. What could I do?Grin & bare it?Rant & rave? They knew they done wrong but were to small to get the shitkicking I felt like giving them. This wasn't bad enough I come home about a week latter & they had busted the windshield.
I gave the car to a young fellow just to protect it from these little(fill in the blank). That was my last attempt to restore anything. Now there 19 & 20.I'm still waiting for them to get something nice so I can blow a tranny or something
Ya ;I guess you could say I was a CARNUT on them days

Have you guys ever hear of the show Top Gear on the BBC.
This web site has video clips of it. They test drive the latest models down an old runway. They rate them and time them on their "Track". Awesome site.

I've gone to the ocean idlers car show in Parksville the last 4 or 5 years..IMO it's the best car show I've seen..I put my mustang in it one year .. and the trep in it last year basically because it was a close parking spot!

I've got two projects on the go right now. I'm restoring a 1963 Chrysler Windsor, 383 ci, push button automatic trany and 65000 original miles on her. Put in electronic ignition, updated the brakes to a dual master replace the rear diff. The rest is all body and interior work, new seats a few small rust spots that have to be cut out and new metal welded in. Then a very nice dark blue pearl metalic goin on.

Second one is a 1980 Jeep Cheroke. Just finished rebuilding the 360 engine. Put in a mild RV cam and new bearings, rings and oil pump. Next is to rebuild the 727 trans and freshen up the transfer case. Then it's all body work from there, and it's going to be a lot of that on this one. Just bought and English wheel so I can make body panels and that will be my winter fun this year.

Good luck in your restorations. I hope to see pics of your work on the Chrysler. Maybe some before/after shoots.
